To the other side of Glencorse Reservoir is what the Army call the 5 peaks challenge. Turnhouse Hill - Carnethy Hill - Scald Law - Hare Hill - Black Hill. A route they use on the commanders courses and a real test for the soldiers with full packs and a time limit.

Would like to walk this before C2C but will only attempt if the weather is decent. Large peaks and very barren with little cover. Weather forecast looks decent for the weekend so may give this a go.

From Glencorse to Castlelaw I cut through a wooded area that we used to use many years ago to set up a dry training CQBR (close quarter battle range) Looks like todays soldiers are still doing the same

I have always passed this place named Castlelaw Fort but never visited it as expected to see just a bunch of rubble. The Fort is gone but these underground chambers/cellars remain. Quite impressive when I think of the age of them

At the top of Allermuir I stopped off for a brew and another slice of my immense toffee loaf. Decided to take this, a slightly different route than I would normally. Half way down I found out why it's not such a popular route as it was very steep and I ended on my arse 3 times.

Bloody hell Geo! For someone who wasn't sure they wanted to do a thread on our exploits you've certainly picked it up and run with it!

Am heading back up the hills at the weekend. Forecast is pretty good so I'll be looking at staying out overnight. This will give me practice in putting up the Basha so I can get pics to Jack of what his accommodation will be for the most of next month. No gardening or power washers required.

Apart from a couple of items I am fully packed and been walking the last couple of weeks with this re-acclimatising to the weight and am happy that I've been able to stick to the middle size pack (about 55/60 litre) and currently only weighs about 9k. Once complete with food and water am estimating 12/13k.

Reading Geo's preparation is impressive.

Jack - Good luck lad (-_-) he's running on the flat bits....

I'll be fine. I'll have put 75 miles in over the course of 5 weeks after this weekend and I'm gonna do a daily 4 miles starting Monday too. I'm a bit heavier than I'd like but the fitness and stamina are there.
