Had a huge chiplead 3 handed but lost a pot to James Dempsey for over 1/2 the chips in play. Now Heads up v him 22k to his 54k. Dinner now.

How can it be a huge chip lead 3handed if he didn't have half the chips in play?

what part of that suggests that he didn't?
e.g. bax 70%, dempsey 26%, random 4%; doubles up dempsey in a 52% pot

Well to me, it implied that had he won that pot he would've had half the chips in play.

Level 4: 1,200-2,400, 400 ante

It took less than four hours of play to complete all our ten Day 2 tables of this the €3,200 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout. They were all 3-max to be fair but the action was still rapid nonetheless. The fact that it took ElkY the longest to complete his win, tells you all you need to know. He completes a stellar line-up for the fourth final table of this series.

There were many notable names who had their high hopes dashed today. Freddy Deeb was first out when his nut straight lost out to Steve O'Dwyer's set when the latter filled up on the river. It wasn't too long before Vanessa Selbst was out in the sun too. Her pocket kings were beaten by the quad sixes of Max Silver, who then went on to beat Terrance Chan heads-up.

Chad Brown, James Mitchell, Anton Makiievskyi, Tommy Vedes, Tobias Reinkemeier and Ryan D'Angelo were all amoungst the 20 players who will have to be happy with the €6,913 they received for winning their first table. D'Angelo will feel the most aggrieved with the amount though as he had O'Dwyer all-in twice as an 80% favourite, but lost both times.

Day 1 Concludes in Event #5 with Bejedal Leading

Day 1 of Event #5: €10,400 No-Limit Hold'em (Split Format) is in the books. Leading the way at the end of the night is Dennis Bejedal with 153,700 in chips. There are 72 players advancing to Day 2 tomorrow, which will be played in a six-handed format.

Plenty of poker superstars were in action for this unique event including Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Jason Mercier, Jeff LIsandro, Michael Mizrachi, Tom Dwan and Erik Seidel. If that's enough enough of a who's who list for you, how about adding Freddy Deeb, Viktor Blom, Tony G, Sam Trickett, Carlos Mortensen and Ben Lamb? If that doesn't satisfy your poker appetite, you should see a doctor soon. They'll all be moving on to Day 2.

On the flip side of things, Phil Collins, McLean Karr, Chris Moorman, Fabrice Soulier, Eugene Katchalov, Barry Greenstein, James Bord and Joao Barbosa were all eliminated throughout the day.

Bejedal took the chip lead after beating fellow Swede Joel Nordkvist in a big pot with full house over full house. Steve Billirakis bet 4,600 on the {10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop, Nordkvist made the call and then Bejedal also called. The three players witnessed the {K-Diamonds} land on the turn and Billirakis checked. Nordkvist fired 12,500 and Bejedal called. Billirakis folded. After the river completed the board with the {2-Clubs}, Nordkvist bet 17,000. Bejedal made the call.

Nordkvist showed the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} for a full house, deuces full of aces. Bejedal revealed the {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} for a better full house, tens full of deuces, and moved to over 150,000 and into the number one spot.

Other notable big stacks include Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi with 140,300, Tom Dwan with 127,400 and Freddy Deeb with 121,000.

Day 2 will commence on Thursday at 1500 CET (0600 PDT)

Congratulations to Tristan Wade, Winner of Event #4: €3,200 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout (€182,048)

Tristan Wade has become the fourth player to collect a coveted gold bracelet this week. He was one of the players who requested the blinds be pushed back today and this allowed him to sit back in the early stages, stay out of trouble and observe all those around him.

We came back from the dinner break five-handed and a different beast returned. His VPIP percentage must've doubled as he began, with Michael Watson, to dismantle the field around him. He won a key hand versus Max Silver four-handed (KK v 44) that enabled him to eliminate the dangerous Brit who had position on him. It also to gave him the chips to compete with Watson, who was chip leader at that point after putting on his own masterclass.

Once Richard Toth was eliminated in 3rd, Wade reached an even greater level of aggression in his play. He pounded his Canadian opponent and soon overturned the chip-deficit and grew a substantial lead. There was one key heads-up hand where he managed to maneuver Watson off a big pot when the board read {10-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and this seemed to break his opponent's spirit.

Watson did manage to double-up when his king-ten over came Wade's pocket jacks, but moments later he was all-in again versus jacks. He was behind with ace-four and failed to find another three-outer.

Wade showed class throughout the three days of play, and that goes for on the table and off the table. He was polite and courteous to all around him and is very a popular and deserving winner.

Event #5: €10,400 No-Limit Hold'em (Split Format)

Powell in Front at the Halfway Pole

This unique "Mixed-Max" event began with 125 players in the hunt, and after two days of play, that number now sits at just sixteen. Entering tomorrow's heads-up bracket, it's Brian Powell wielding the big stack, bagging up an impressive 484,000 to make himself the betting favorite at the halfway point.

Nearly everyone in this elite field would qualify as "notable", but a few particularly big names were among the early casualties. November Niner Ben Lamb started the day with just 8,100 chips (from a 30,000-chip starting stack), and he managed an early triple up before the bottom fell out. After working up to about 25,000, he promptly ran his pocket kings into Joseph Elpayaa's pocket aces, and Lamb was relegated to the rail within the first few minutes of the day. November's Matt Giannetti didn't fare much better, and he was very short on chips when his pocket tens fell to an opponent with ace-four.

Others to hit the rail on this brutal day included Phil Hellmuth, Jonathan Duhamel, and Carlos Mortensen, as well as France's own Bruno Fitoussi, David Benyamine, and Vanessa Rousso. And Olivier Busquet, who only sounds French.

The bubble was pretty brutal, but all 16 who survived this day are guaranteed to make some money this week. They'll return to the tables tomorrow at 3:00 P.M when the bracket will be drawn and we'll find out who plays who. We'll play the Rounds of 16 and 8 tomorrow, finishing up with our final four for the run to the bracelet.

Fierro on Fire: Nicolas Fierro Leads Day One Event #6: €1,620 Six-Handed PLO

339 players were reduced to 36 players in the blink of an eye - the beauty of six-handed PLO!

Jack Ellwood and Chad Brown were the early front runners, but then Roberto Romanello took over at the top and maintained the lead for most of the day. Then the man on fire, Nicolas Fierro, burned his way to the top and when he was moved to the Welshmans table he overtook him as the man to catch.

The end of eight levels approached at the same time as the money bubble and the unfortunate bubble boy was Sean LeFort. The action ceased immediately and everyone was sent home, guaranteed a min-cash, and told to return at 15.00 (CET) for Day Two.

And Then There Were Four: Event #5 €10,400 NLHE (Split Format)
Level 21: 6,000-12,000, 2,000 ante

This split format concept is a lot of fun.

Day One resolved the nine-handed dispute, Day Two ended the six-handed dispute and today we had the testosterone fuelled heads-up encounters. 16 players started and four remained after two rounds of action.

In the first round Anatolii Ozhenilok overcame a 2:1 chip deficit to defeat Joel Nordkvist and Brian Hastings overcame Erik Seidel! Yes the man can be beaten! The last encounter to be settled involved fellow countrymen Jason Mercier and Shawn Buchanan. The man nicknamed Bucky flopping straights an incredible three times during their encounter which he eventually progressed through.

With the dangerous Seidel and Mercier out of the way it became anyones contest in the second round. The first casualty was Hastings who was quite litrally ground-down by The Grinder Michael Mizrachi and Shawn Buchanan won his see-saw match with Ozhenilok. Then the biggest upset of the round came when Roger Hairabedian overturn a chip deficit to take out Brian Powell. This left one final match between Dan Fleyshman and Noah Schwartz. Schwartz was always in control but just could not eliminate Fleyshman who kept alive through a series of double ups. In the end Fleyshman found {K-Spades} {J-Spades} and Schwartz found {K-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} and that is all she wrote.

Michael Mizrachi Wins Event #5 €10,400 No-Limit Hold'em (Split Format)

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi has just climbed to the top of this WSOPE heap, winning his second gold bracelet in two years and adding another €336,008 to his wallet. That moves him into sixth place on the all-time money list.

Coming out of the big-stacked half of the bracket, Mizrachi's road to the final appeared to be a tough one, but he did what he could to make it look easy. On the very first hand of his Round-of-16 match, Grinder found pocket kings against Kent Lundmark's pocket tens, and a win there proved to be a good omen for Mizrachi.

Next up for Mizrachi was a contest with Brian Hastings. Hastings, who is more famous for his online action than his live, was in excellent form after stopping the unstoppable Erik Seidel in Round One. When the match started off both players had around half a million chips each but the Grinder was simply stunning; he won every pot of note until Hastings was reduced to moving all-in with {K-Spades} {3-Spades} and The Grinder called with {A-Hearts} {7-Hearts} and he was into the semi-final.

In the semi-final, Mizrachi found himself up against a man very much on top of his game. Roger Hairabedian had recently battled his way through to the Partouche Main Event final table where he will try to win, a not too shabby, €1 million first prize. Hairabedian had disposed of Dimitry Motorov and Brian Powell en route to his encounter with the Grinder. Both players started with the biggest stacks of the semi-final and they both knew that the winner would carry a 2:1 chip advantage into the final, so it was a lot at stake. The match itself was slow and sedentary until the climax and a quite incredible hand. Hairabedian must have been ecstatic when he flopped a set of fives on a {J-Hearts} {8-Spades} {5-Spades} board, but not half as ecstatic as Mizrachi who turned a straight holding {6-Hearts} {7-Clubs} when the {4-Diamonds} made an appearance. A classic cooler for Hairabedian who was out in 3rd.

Onto the final and his opponent was Shawn Buchanan. Buchanan had already cashed in two WSOPE events this series and was in fine form; but he did have a 2:1 chip disadvantage. The chip difference proved to be all the difference because it enabled Mizrachi to extert pressure and exert it he did. The critical hand that sent Buchanan to the depths of despair was when the sign of the devil appeared on the flop. It was {6-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {6-Spades} and Mizrachi extracted two-thirds of the Buchanan stack before forcing him to fold to an all-in jam on the river. Then the final hand of Event #5 and Mizrachi added that piece of luck to his skill jigsaw. Mizrachi moved all-in over a Buchanan raise and Buchanan made the call. It was the {A-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} of Mizrachi versus the {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} of Buchanan but a {10-Clubs} in the window sealed the deal and handed Mizrachi his second WSOP bracelet.
