What is the best format for TEAM poker?

Hi Guys,

I am running an interuniversity event in December where we will have teams competing. I was wondering what people's opinions are on what format best captures a team aspect of poker and how you could score this, also how best to cope with variable team numbers?

My current plan is a 10 table shootout, with one team member on each table (so teams of 10 approx), with points awarded for the finish of your best 5 players. The idea with the shootout being to have lots of railling and teams totting up wins as we go sort of thing?

Anyone got any experience running a good team event of what they thought worked well?

Wasn't a fan of team events but have now run about 10, and they are extremely popular particularly in community groupings

Ours (APAT) run a standard MTT

The top percentage score points, half the prize pool to the top teams, half to the top players in a standard MTT payout

for example we run with 200 runners

1st 50 points, 5oth 1 point

top three of 25 teams get cash

Thanks- I guess I agree with TightEnd's post. But there are surely different concepts of 'team' as well- comparing to rugby or football isn't really the sort of team I would be thinking about.

Team GB enter Olympics events and compete essentially individually and are really only interested in their own performance, however being part of the larger team structure is important for spectators and 'pride' etc. It's more that sort of team we had in mind.

I've never been a fan of the concept either.
Its me versus the field.
I'm playing my first one in Luton on the 22nd so I'll see if that changes.
I do like the idea if shootouts as that kills any potential soft playing.

One step further would perhaps be to have 10 teams, 10 shootout tables and everybody rotates a table each level... (not in the same direction) with any busted seats meaning players sit out a level...

Now that might be interesting! That way you take all the stacks of your team at some point.

Probably won't try that yet.

I would be interested to know what sort of teamwork you think could be employed, both potentially 'allowable' and 'not'?

This SHOULD be allowed. Any half decent player should spot it and exploit it accordingly

Don't know how many players you were looking to have, but link tells you how a successful team event has been run in Dundee, third one in a year is being held soon.  Seemed to work.
