Game is $1/$2 at the Venitan

Stack sizes

Me just over $500
Villan covering me

Table is fairly loose and passive but the villan in this hand is quiet aggressive although has been in a lot of pots he does raise and bet quite a bit. He has also been running quite good and shown down some marginal hands.

My image is pretty much that of a rock as I have been playing super tight due to the table being so loose.

There are limpers in the pot and the villan raises again to $7. I have Q7s and reraise from the BB to $21 the table folds back to him and he calls. I don't put him on that big of a hand.

Flop is Q-4-3 (two diamonds)

I bet out $35 and he askes me what he is up against, I tell him not a huge hand, he calls. The turn comes down the nine of diamonds and I lead out for $40. He calls again.

The river comes down an off suit nine. I was going to give up and check but something about his body lanuage make me think he hates that card. He kind of moves back from his chips and leans back in his chair a little. However I now think my top pair poor kicker is beaten, but that he does not like his hand much. With a set I would expect him to raise on the flop, with a flush I would expect him to raise the turn. I do think he could have QQ here but it is unlikely and if he did why would he look unhappy about the river card?

I bet $100

This kind of play is something I am pretty inexperienced at so though I would post it to get some feedback.

EDIT - Corrected flop action when I missed the bet size out

Fold pre.

What's the turn action?

As played, I assume we're bet/folding?

Oops, sorry, meant what was the flop action. What size did you bet? Makes it important so we know the size of the pot with regards to your river bet.

Yeah a clear fold pre. Really don't like the 3bet pre...don't like you saying that you don't have a big hand either TBH.

You've started bluffing pre so might as well bet now. Don't really like it much TBH and would pray that he folds on the river. Assuming you've bet $25'ish on the flop your hundo is a half pot, nice and milky, kind off bet so that might scare him off but the whole hand seems very spewy.

BTW, nice and subtle brag by posting 4 hands and for each of them you have an increasing stack Smiley

Make it bigger pre and price him out. Your hand is a perfectly fine 3bet. He probably doesn't have a strong hand only making it 7 after a few limpers and he has been active. I prefer 26-31$ here, looking to take down the 15$ in the middle.

As played I'd bet about my 3bet size plus $5 so 26$ and see what happens. I wouldn't talk in the hand unless i have experience doing so.

River as played is all about your feeling in the moment, its impossible to recreate on the forum, however bear in mind the strong = weak and vice versa for live tells. The sigh on the turn card which brings the flush is always a good tell Smiley

3b pre seems good given your image and his, and his sizing. But your sizing is wayyyy too small. I'd make it 35 here. You're oop and don't want him to peel. anything less than 30 gives him too great a price to peel and try and crack "the big hand" he probably puts you on. Q7ss is alright, can flop top pair, and is, importantly, suited.

3b bigger pre, so we aren't betting $100 on this river for value? Would bet about $60, don't really see why we'd bluff with a high amount of showdown value.

The 9 pairing seems irrelevant but is actually a good card for us since it improves the absolute strength of his small pairs, makes us look full of a it a bit more, maybe he'll even hero with A high. Accept he's never folding a Q though.

river line as a "bluff" is bad. ifd you think he has you beat, its an easy c/f.

good post Cambridgeshire .

Although I dont like to 3b light out of the blinds in these games, even at 10/20+ I'm super unbalanced and just 3bet super premiums (bar very special spots) 250+bbs deep, people dont fold nearly ever and there is just absolutely no need whatsoever to get into a big pot with a bad hand OOP.

If you ARE gonna 3bet light though you picked a absolutely fine hand to do it with.

He actually folded this hand and said he had the flush, might not have been true of course.

The river bet was definitively meant to be a bluff as I did not want a caller. I think this is again a bit of ROT in that it worked so it must be good, however having read these posts I have to agree it is a long term -EV play

He didn't have a flush.

I fold pre from bb here but as played, bet smaller on flop and a lil bigger on turn.
