My question wasn't odds related............. there are obviously situations at short odds where an each way bet can be the most profitable option.
My understanding is that each way bets are generally more profitable for the layer, than win only bets. Therefore, if we do all, or almost all, of our bets each way, we are taking a less profitable strategy.
I'm no expert though, and I could be misinterpreting stuff that I have read.
This is incorrect, some of the best value bets you´ll ever see will be the place portion of an e/w bet in an 8/9 runner race at odds considerably shorter than 4 or 5/1. Also, the scenario you mention is not applicable to the majority of Raman's bets. BTW Raman, not having a go.... I do have your thread open when picking my bets for the day.

High street bookmakers prefer the straight win punter to the e/w punter.

13:10 - Lingfield - Finefrenzyrolling - 2pts e/w @ 5/1 14:10 - Lingfield - Time Medicean - 1.5pts e/w @ 25/1 14:40 - Lingfield - Ecossaise - 2pts e/w @ 12/1 15:40 - Lingfield - Dichoh - 1.5pts e/w @ 12/1 13:00 - Leicester - Nazreef 2pts e/w @ 11/1 15:00 - Christopher Wren - 4pts e/w @ 7/2 14:20 - Hexham - Soul Bid - 1pt e/w @ 20/1 15:20 - Hexham - Domoly 3pts e/w @ 7/1
Not may selections for me today. I may get involved in a few other races just as win bets but they are not for the purpose of this thread but if anything pops up will stick it up.
I really wanted to be with Kiss a Prince today, I was very impressed by how well it ran last time and how well the apprentice done not to get a place but @ 7/2 its not a bet for me. If I'd managed to get some of the 11/1 that Eso says was available yesterday I would have maxed out.

Cut the Cackle and Sovento both running again at Kempton this evening. Just had a text but no indication of how good they will be, both returned a profit last time though

I have had 10 points on Code Blue @ 1.7 to place in the 2:50 Hexham.
This was one I really wanted to back earlier as it has form over C&D on Heavy going but the price this morning wasn't what I was looking for now for a horse that was around 11/4 there is some value in the place imo.

Only 7 runners in this race now, when I first looked at it I liked the top weight but I will be taking a watching brief only.

5:50 - Kempton - Weeod - 1.65 points @ 7.5 to place.
This is just a pure speculator on my part. I like the top weight ftw when I read over the race earlier, but not too keen on the price.

Had a decent day today, although I never put any selections on this thread I shared a few on the other threads. Which seen me well in profit for today.
So I'm going to have a dabble tonight.
In the first race I can't see past the favourite and I am actually tempted to back it. But couldn't suggest to anyone else that there is any value in betting it.

Last night was a bit of a non event.
There isn't much that jumps out at me today in terms of representing much value.
