aparently we had signed danny welbeck in january last year, a fee was agreed between the 2 sides and welbeck was happy to to move sunderland on a permanent. then a few days after everything was agreed bruce decided the transfer fee was too high, and fergy basically told him to fk off. this is just what iv heard like, but sounds redic. id certainly have been happy to invest quite a lot of the 18m they got for bent, and quite a lot of the 8 million we paid for connor whickham.

signed far too many players every year hes been there, every new season we started with bruce we had a significantly changed team, impossible to develope this way.

for some reason this season it took him 10 matches to realise that sessagnon wasnt a striker, and that playing a 4 foot tall midfielder upfront on his own wasnt quite working. But its ok, because last saturday he had a masterplan, he'd move keiron richardson away from his usual left back position and play him as an attacking ride sided player. and play seb larson (cracking right foot) down the left.

he didnt realise that mignolet was probably a worse keeper than my gran, and it took a broken nose to finally get him out the team.

last season El Mohammedy was probably the worst sunderland player in the squad. Yerp, he decides to sign him on a permanent deal this season.

fuck knows what advice he gave titus bramble.

one positive i can see is ji dong won, atleast we can have a laugh.

I honestly don't know how you lads cope with all those Tables AND Post on blonde, respect to you, I struggle with 4 or 5, especially with all the rail chat directed my way. Some of which is nice.

Anyway, best not derail the Thread, football's life & death up your way, eh?

Mr Bruce? Not exactly the sort of person who could motivate me, to be honest. A good player does not necessarily make a good manaager & all that. You'd have thought that penny would have dropped with the Sunderland board after their experiences with Messrs Butcher, Reid, Quinn & Keane.

I used to watch Sunderland a lot, as it happens, as I had business interests up there, & I had a corporate box for the season that the Stadium of Light was opened - '97, was it? Never took to it though, Roker had such an incredible atmo, no "new-style" Stadia could ever match that.

I wouldn't do it whilst playing, I generally don't look on blonde whilst in a session but had a quick look at the bbc site during a break so came on to post that I was decent pointed.

I think "decent pointed" will now become a blonde-ism. Today, I will use it. You can claim the credit.

I know some things went against Bruce at Sunderland, but for me I wont shed a tear he lost his job. It's karma for the man who shafted 3-4 clubs as a manager to try and read the top. I bet Wigan fans are happy.

Pat Murphy on 5Live quite interesting last night on this.
Apparently as a kid M O'Neill was a big Sunderland fan and would love the job. Only thing which may prevent him getting it is the fact that he fell out with Randy Lerner at Villa. Lerner and Ellis Short are on quite good terms.

He also said that the reason MON left Villa is because Milner was being sold and MON wanted Scott Parker to replace him, a £6m deal was agreed, and Lerner blocked it.

and so the managerial merry-go-round starts again
Bruce leaves Sunderland and the suggestions for his replacement are all the out of work managers whose record of failure/ disloyalty/ inability to work with their board or chairman makes them the only candidates for the job?

No doubt Bruce's name will be mentioned when the Blackburn job becomes available later in the season.

Martinez and Coyle took the step up from lower league clubs into the PL, as, in a sense, did Pardew (special case) but with the current form exception of Pardew that hasn't gone well. Is there someone out there in the Championship or below that could be considered here?

Adkins? Always had a decent budget but nonetheless a great start to the season for a newly promoted team.
Mackay? Smaller budget than Jones had and maintaining/improving results?
Powell? Probably too low to appoint a L1 manager but so far so good.

Other than the big 2 linked with it I'd imagine Martinez, Lambert and possibly Mclaren would be under consideration. Not sure I'd want anything to do with Hughes.

Anyone think he may actually do something with Wales in the short term therefore is a good lay for the job?

It's not an angle I'd considered but Wales do look like they have the makings of a really good team over the next few years so it's probably a better job than it has been in the past and maybe one where he could rebuild his reputation.
Probably a good lay anyway. He's slimy so many people won't want to touch him. Kia is his agent which will put people off. He quit Fulham expecting a bigger job so that could be a fear. Bookies love a Next Manager Market. A different manager will get linked daily for as long as it goes on so it's possible he will be a bigger price again at some point.

You could have layed £4k about five minutes ago @ 2.9 on BF, gone now but I can't see that it was taken.

Amazing that the same old names get trotted out every time there is a vacancy, & Steve McLaren is one of them. Really?

George Graham used to be in every betting market for years on end, not sure what price he is for Sunderland this time?  Wink
