The missus wants to get herself a post-Christmas present of a tablet, probably Android as they're cheaper. She's looking to spend less than a ton and obviously wants biggest screen, fastest processer, best internal storage/ability to add additional storage etc.

Have found a few that look reasonable in her price range but all seem to come from China/Hong Kong and would rather get one from UK, preferably a reputable dealer.

Any ideas please? Thanks in advance Smiley

Less then a ton?Huh?

I haven't seen any tablet under £150, and that's for a rubbish one.

Well there's this for £80 - http://www.retailgadgets.co.uk/V11-Android-2.2-Tablet-800MHz-VIA-WM8650-ARM-11-Processor-Black.html - but it's out of stock.

And this for £109 - http://www.ebellking.com/superpadvi - which she might stretch to but reviews have said you need to be wary of this one and it appears to be coming from China...

I got the arnova 10 g2 from hmv

http://arnovatech.com/products/g2/arn_10/index.html?country=ua&lang=en

Really impressed with it.

Now it doesn't support android market which is pretty huge, but that's easily passed using baazar mobile and apitoide app store.

Browser wise i can't see any difference between this and and ipad 2

You need to splash out and give her an iPad because she's worth it.

advice:

do your homework well before u buy

7" screen might be too small

in my experience you usually get what you pay for

ive hardly used my laptops since i got my i pad 2

Same here, it actually took me 3 days to realise my personal laptop had been stolen after my break in.

The Kindle Fire is due out in January (12th I think) supposed to be less than a ton and is said to be ipads biggest rival (probably due to Amazons connection). http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/884123-amazon-kindle-fire-to-go-on-sale-in-uk-in-january-with-100-price-tag

It's only going to be for surfing the net, email, Facebook, ebay etc. so doesn't need to be anything special. Kindle Fire could be a goer, will need to read up about that.

Thanks for the input  Smiley

Have found this site - http://www.tabletcomputersdirect.com/products.php?sortby=LH&category=tabletpc - they look to me as though they could do the job. Any thoughts?

How about this tablet? Only issue I can see with it is 256mb RAM for Android 2.3 - is this going to cause problems? http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/25418875/Sweex-Yarvik-TAB250-7-inch-4GB-Tablet-Android-2-3/Product.html?searchtype=allproducts&searchsource=0&searchstring=tablet+android&urlrefer=search

She's jumped her price range now though having found this: http://www.dabs.com/products/storage-options-scroll-excell-7--capacitive-touchscreen-tablet-pc----android-2-3--hd---3d-output-7T0M.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=product+search&utm_content=Q200

So now I think maybe this as mentioned by Linux earlier - http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/ARNOVA_10_G2/HANDSET?portal=GLSHOP&promo=GLSHOP - can also get a 'B grade' version from Maplin for £130, but probably worth the extra tenner to get it new.

What RAM does yours have? The one at Carphone Warehouse says it has 256mb RAM, which I have been told will not be enough for Android and anything else to run nicely together. The reviews I have read all say it has higher RAM...
