There are a few problems.  Firstly, 2 days really isn't a lot of time to get much done, so don't be too ambitious with the plans.  Secondly, 15-yr-old son will not be allowed to loiter in any gaming area.  In other words, you can enter a casino with him, but you should demonstrably be in a hurry to get directly to a non-gaming amenity (attraction or restaurant etc) or you will very quickly get heat from security.

Weds night "just strolling around" is a fair enough plan, just see where you end up.  Bellagio fountain show worth a watch, Mirage Volcano almost worth a watch, if desperate for something to do for free outside, add in Sirens @ TI.

The weather will still be plenty hot enough to enjoy daytime by the pool.  Maybe keep out the midday heat by going to lunch, or visiting whatever mob/pinball/neon museum appeals or premium outlet mall for inexpensive shopping. In the evening you can go downtown and soak up the lunacy, have dinner somewhere, helicopter ride up&down the strip, or pick off a show.

How much poker you get in will depend largely on how cool your son is about being dumped in the room watching a movie/sleeping while you play.  Maybe sneaking an hour of cash in would be easier than committing to a tournament.

If you get much of that done, you'll have had a busy few days.  Some on here go for 5 weeks and don't get much of that done.....

Thanks Simon, I'll see what of that I can fit into my flying visit of Vegas.  Poker isn't really a priority, which in itself is a travesty for someone visiting Vegas, but maybe next time.

Massive +1 to the Mob Museum. Really is quite a thing to walk around. Also cheap and you're downtown, which is more amenable as an aread to an under 21.

Def spend time on the Strip as well, though.

Enjoy.

Hi, I need some travel / poker / sightseeing advice and I'm pretty sure this is exactly the place I need to get it.

I'm currently over in California for 2 weeks and heading to Vegas on Wednesday and staying at Planet Hollywood for 2 nights and leaving on Friday.

It will be me, Leo (my 15 year old son) and a friend who is a wheelchair user.

Assuming I arrive quite late Wednesday evening we'll probably just go up the down the strip for that evening.  Poker isn't a priority but if I can get a smallish tournament in, NLH or PLO8, I would.

So can anyone suggest what I could do, see, drive to, visit on Thursday / Friday?

Bear in mind I've never been to Vegas and have no idea what is there to do.

The flight along the strip in a helicopter at sundown is pretty good
The red rock scenic drive -12 miles is good too for a morning /afternoon drive out
Downtown is more child friendly Fremont street is always busy with quite a bit to see - bands on stages overhead light show ,have your photo taken with 1 mirrion dollars in binions ,see where the wsop started - not that good !
Visit Caesars , Venetian , Bellagio conservatory ,
Love - at the mirage show
The hi roller wheel at the Linq
Hole in the wall Italian restaurant - very old vegas style !
Should be enough there for 2/3 days

Here's a bit of an itinerary
Weds pm leave  planet Hollywood walk towards Paris n Ballys
Visit the hi roller wheel
If early enough keep going to the Venetian - although if it's hot n your pushing a wheelchair ? This may be too far .
In which case cross over to Caesars n Bellagio fountains back to PH
thursday
Am red rock scenic drive
Book helicopter flight for 5/6 pm being picked up from Mandalay bay or Luxor
Pm cross strip visit aria New York New York Luxor Mandalay bay again a lot of walking !
Helicopter flight
Get dropped at PH
7 /8 pm catch 2-7 bus to downtown
Friday late start maybe play poker till departure
If you get all that done you're fitter than me - it's always a lot of walking in Vegas it's much bigger n places are further away than they look !
Good luck
I'm having a cheeky week away mid sept at the downtown grand 2/3 nights - must do mob museum this time n south point with some friends for 4 nights

Perfect, thanks Tony.

The Vegas visit wasn't even planned so whatever I can get to do while I am there is a bonus.  When I get back I'll let you know what I managed to squeeze in.

Hotel booked for 2 nights.
Mobility scooter booked.
Helicopter tour of Hoover Dam, the Colorado River, Lake Mead and the Las Vegas Strip booked (they said on the phone it was wheelchair accessible so my friend can transfer ok, we'll see).

Going to try and also fit in the museum, the high roller observation wheel, Voodoo zipline, SlotZilla zipline and anything else you guys mentioned above, if my legs last that long.

I'll need a holiday after this holiday.

I'm back in England, overslept on the first day of work since I'd had 4 hours sleep in the last 48 hours so Monday was a write off.

Had one hell of an adventure though, rough itinerary of what I managed to pack into 3 days in Vegas.

Wed
Didn't get to Vegas until about 6pm so after checking in we
Strolled up the strip North
Went on the HighRoller
Crossed the street and walked back South to watch the Bellagio fountain show
Then dinner on the strip

Thu
Spent some time in the hotel pool - had a great view of the strip from the pool
Went on the Flowrider surfing thing, I have the bruises to prove it
Lunch in the Miracle Mile
Limo ride to Helicopter tour of Hoover Dam, the Colorado River, Lake Mead and the Strip
After getting the ride back to the strip we had dinner on the strip
Strolled the strip South as far as Luxor
Stopped by M&M world on the way, really a 3 or was it 4 story shop just for M&M's?
We got back to the hotel at about 2am at which point I got changed and went for a 5km run up and down the strip
Now this was interesting, normally I assume you see all sorts of characters 'performing' or displaying themselves along the strip and most tourists give them a wide berth.  I had the feeling running at 2.30am in Vegas I was the 'character' people were looking at strangely.  Oh well.

Fri
Breakfast in the Miracle Mile and watched the 'indoor thunderstorm' that happens every 30 minutes
Back to the pool for more Flowrider surfing, since I clearly wasn't hurting enough from the first time
Then walked South again back to New York, New York so my son could play in the arcade
Finally went on the New York, New York rollercoaster since my neck wasn't quite broken enough from falling over on the Flowrider about 50 times

So didn't get to do a lot of what was suggested but did get to pack a lot into 3 days in Vegas.

No poker was played, next time.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Virgin air mile reward seat sale now on.  Ends 22nd Sept.

Includes Premium too.  Spelling it out, assuming you have zero miles:

Econ = £650 incl tax
Prem = £1150-£1200 incl tax

If you spend more than that on a cash fare, you are probably doing it wrong.
