My insurance company I always use doesn't do travel insurance any more. Any recommendations for a firm? Or firms I should avoid? Guess it doesn't matter too much, but thought I would ask in here nevertheless.
Also need to book a last minute flight (thin) - Probably will end up going via Iceland to LA, but not sure yet. Any amazing deals/tricks gratefully recieved but I've spent some time having a look today and prices seem v expensive of course as it is last minute!

Get a nationwide current account and travel insurance is free. You get £100 cash to sign up for the account as well (i will get the same if i refer you). If you are interested PM me. Cambridge Alex and me did this last year with no hassle at all.

I always use moneysupermarket.
Always found it cheaper than going direct to companies

From maybe around 28 June to 18 July. Dates flexible. I'll be in Birmingham. Ideally I want to do an open jaw from back to Berlin from the US, but really most places in Europe are fine on the way back as getting around Europe is usually easy and cheap. Would also fly out from somewhere random and take a night there before if it is v cheap. Don't mind flying to/from LA if I have to.
Also thanks for the insurance posts. I already have a Nationwide account which I don't use much at the moment as I am rarely in the UK, will look into it

dub-las via chicago
las-dub via london
28th june-18th july is £355. just have to get to/from dublin (although return flight you have to change from heathrow to gatwick so you could just sack off the last flight and fly direct from london-berlin)
That was on Skyscanner. Dublin is generally the cheapest city to fly from in Europe to US.

For anyone who visits the USA regularly, Wells Fargo Bank allow non-residents to open a checking account. It comes with a debit card, so you can transfer money over to the account from the UK using
www.transferwise.com
to get the best exchange rate (just under spot usually) and then withdraw $ from Wells Fargo branches in Vegas (3 or 4 different branches I believe) or withdraw $ at any ATM (daily limits apply). If you had a big win over there, you'd be able to deposit the winnings at the Wells Fargo branch and then instruct Transferwise to transfer back to the UK and get an unbeatable rate.
In order to open the account, you have to visit one of their branches in person with 2 forms of ID (1 has to be your passport and the other has to have your address on it).
I'd second this , the only downside I had was they failed to send the ATM card after mine expired and wouldn't explain why when I queried it but auto lapsed my account to dormant with some tough conditions to reactivate it, I am popping in while here to do that hopefully they won't still insist on a notarised for to do so.

Karma Dope, thanks a lot, will take a look now!
Anyone stayed in Linq since it got changed from IP?
I know Ballys is better than Harrahs, but where does Linq rank compared to the two. Just need a decent room central strip, nothing fancy, so these seem to be the best options.

Anyone used Travel Premier for currency?
Seem to be best price. They want bank transfer. Is this the samrle as transferring to a person?
Currency ordered online yesterday late morning. Arrived this morning by special delivery. Can't fault that.

hmmm you could just be laying 999-1 shots - probably ok, but.......
I prefer the ones that are FSA regulated and use debit cards.

Bit of debate about when this started but wsop and some other casinos are insisting on id proof and address proof for payouts. So make sure you bring along your driving licence as well as your passport (if you don't have a driving licence bring along some other official document or utility bill with your name and address).

Why would anyone even want to carry their passport around with them, if they have a driving licence?
Makes me laugh every year when you lots of Brits, half cut, with their passports hanging out their pockets.
I have only ever used photo driving licence and never had a problem

The point is where they are strictly applying AML procedures you need an ID document and a
separate
address document.
