Daily Report, as @ 07:00, Saturday July 14th

We missed a couple of bets but placed one on the Olympic basketball.

There were still no holes in one in the golf.

What's coming up?

The final of the Speedway World Cup starts at 6pm tonight. Fred has backed Australia who are favourites.

There are lots of games on the last day of the regular seasons in the Super 15 rugby.

There's a rugby league challenge cup semi-final between Leeds and Wigan.

The Tour De France continues.

The West Indies play New Zealand in ODI cricket.

The golf continues. The Open is next week.

The tennis is fairly low profile after Wimbledon.

The World Junior Athletics Championship is ongoing.

It's 13 days until the start of the Olympics.

You HAD to remind me. Kimber must be dreading that one losing.

It has gone now.  Merritt, who I really fancied anyway, ran a years leading time tonight.  I didn't catch what happened but Liang didn't even reach the final.  Merritt should be favourite for my money.  It is pretty much between the two.  The olympics are going to throw up so many opportunities it is unreal.

I live in Crystal Palace and got tickets to the meet, so no idea what was shown on TV. The announcers (Katherine Merry/Iwan Thomas) said he tweaked his back in warm up for the final (he'd got through the heats) so that's the reason he didn't run. Regardless, Meritt ran 12.93 for a WL/PB and the fastest time that's ever been run in the UK and as he said post-race 'is in shape!'

Am not suggesting this as a bet, but Chaunte Lowe (33/10 on bwin) won the woman's high jump with a jump of 2m (world leading = 2.03, Anna Chicherova) and looked a class apart. She's well ahead at the top of the diamond league standings and beat Chicherova who could only clear 1.94m (2011 WC, 3/4 fav on Bwin). The joint second favourite Blanka Vlasic was not in the comp.

Perri Shakes-Drayton ran a PB of 53.77 tonight (world lead = 53.40) and is a 5/1 shot for the 400m hurdles. She beat both Melanie Walker and Irina Davydova who are ahead of her in the betting, although the 2/1 favourite Lashinda Demus and Natalya Antyukh (world leading time) were not in the race.

Lets try 30 0r 40 quid each way on Luke Donald in the Scottish Open golf at 5/1 a 1/4 the first 4. He is 6.6 in the win only market on BF so after taking commish off we are getting just under that but we are able to take the place bet too. He is 11/2 with Sport Odds but they are paying only three places for the each way part.

The event has only been held here for the last 2 years, Donald shot 67,67, and 63 to come thru the field and win last year( reduced to 54 holes), he has put up 67 and 68 so far this week so it's clearly a course he likes tho the scoring has been low both years. He is currently 3 off the lead after 2 rounds but we get the most consistent player in the game at the mo on our side in an event he put up 14 under for the last 2 rounds to win last year. Hopefully he can come past the leaders again this year.
