Daily Report, as @ 05:30, Friday June 29th

Our bet on Italy getting more corners than Germany went a little awry. Still, it could have been worse, we might have had a spread bet. The result? Germany 14 Italy 0. Ouch. Germany losing also meant that we are hanging on a thread with our top goalscorer bet. Mario Gomez is in a five-way tie on 3 goals. Balotelli is our main threat in the final although Torres, Alonso or Fabregas could also spoil things.

We made an overall profit on the tennis thanks to two bets from Horneris.

Fred missed out on a sixes bet in the T20 that would have sailed home. Fred also missed out on Singheee's standard baseball winner.

Lots of good input on the thread again yesterday. Please keep it up. Fred will try harder to get the right bets on.

What's coming up?

Wimbledon continues. The defeat of Nadal will have shaken up the men's markets.

The European athletics championship continues in Helsinki.

Snooker continues in China.

There's plenty of domestic T20 cricket today including Worcestershire v Glamorgan. A win for Glamorgan would be handy.

In the Golf, the Irish Open continues. Our three runners (Hoey, McDowell and Colsaerts) are all still in the mix with Colsaerts two shots off the lead.

There was a suggestion a few days ago that we were only concentrating on the main televised events where the margins are likely to be slim. Today sees televised U17 Women's football in the European Championship. Anyone got any insight?

There's a rugby Super League match between Salford and Warrington on TV. There are also two other fixtures.

Super 15 rugby also re-starts after the international break. There are televised matches from 8:30am this morning.

England play Australia in the first (of five) cricket ODI.

Basically, there's a lot of great sport on today. Something for everyone, I would think.

Anyone got any tips for the Tour de France?

Have got massively in to it the last few years thanks to blonde Smiley

Peter Sagan is going to be making me money this year hopefully.

I want to back him e/w for the young rider classification but everyone offering win only for some reason. He'll start out going for the green jersey but if Cav or anyone else dominates it he will prob give up and go for a good general classification position. You can look to back him for stage wins, he can break away and sprint and he can climb a bit, would be interested in backing him to win stages that aren't pan flat but aren't mountain stages.

Australia win the toss and bowl at Lords

It is muggy, and overcast. They have lots of seam bowling.

Strong favourites to win this one I reckon (just as Eng would be if they had won this toss)

Australia should be shorter than 4/5 (England are evens)

I had hoped that today Federer would be playing a young up and coming, good player- sadly Benneteau is none of these. This could become the " tip that never was".

Best to keep our powder dry for now.

I was very impressed with Cummins when he played in South Africa.
If he can stay fit, he's going to be a real star.

I am off to investigate but with Nadal gone the top seeds in that half are Murray and Tsonga

Instinctively I want to oppose Murray. Not sure he won't buckle to pressure of expectations at some point in the next week now.

Tsonga is 14-1 in many places, e/w 1/2 the odds to reach the final

Is that not outstanding value, 7-1 minus Nadal in his quarter?

Semis last year...

Murray's draw has to take him through...Bagdahtis, Cilic and Delpo/Ferrer before the semi's

Compared to Tsonga is there more value in Cilic?

I throw that open to tennis experts

I believe we had a Tsonga tip at 40/1 pre-tournament. Sad

The Oddschecker e/w information for PaddyPower is wrong.
They pay 1/3 the odds for the place.

Boyles are 14-1 1/2 e/w top 2.

Looks good, what am I missing? Presumably bookies have him a big price should he have to face Murray in the semis

I must be too slow.
It's probably an age thing.
(A seamless transition from tikay's stewardship, I would say).
