Oh wow, George, what a wonderful photo, he's a real beauty.
I spend a ton of time trying to get Heron pics, but they are so skittish, & it's hard to get close enough to them. I've never seen so many of them as I have recently, perhaps because I know where to look now, but they are such beautiful creatures.
I know this is off-topic, but if you have Sky TV, the Nat Geo "Wild" series is simply stunning, especially Danube, Atlantic, Nordic, & Japan, best wildlife camerawork & commentary I've ever seen.
All the Attenborough "Life of" stuff has been repeated over the holidays, too.
Also worth watching are the Ray Mears "Bushcraft" stuff, which is mainly UK-based. He is a bit up his own arse, & condescending, but the subjects covered are tremendously interesting.
Been a lot of bears stuff lately, too - brown, grizzly, polar - & that's terrific. I watched a gannet attack a polar bear yesterday!
This surely is the golden age of animal & wildlife documentaries, I watch them 24/7, sometimes the same shows repeated.

Hi Tk,
I agree that they seem to be more common these days, or at least, more easily spotted, this chap stood right at the bottom of the overfolw of the Cramond Falls, I think to catch any fish coming down the flume

I was out at a project called the Kelpies again at the weekend and there were a few there too
http://www.thehelix.co.uk/discover-helix/the-kelpies/
I was with the grandson and my middle son and we followed the Forth and clyde canal for a bit to the Falkirk wheel. During this walk my son and I decided we should do the whole Union Canal - Forth nad Clyde canal walk sometime in the New Year. We will be walking and camping although it will probably be a 4 day jobbie unlike the Coast to Coast. I may well blog it on here and of course the grandson will be joining us.
I watch most of those wild life things and am constantly amazed by the ingenuity of life's creatures. Also enjoy the Ray Mears stuff, if you think he's a bit up his own arse, avoid the Bear Grylls stuff, proper tossbag that guy.
Now that things have hopefully settled down at work I'll get out more often at the weekends this year

Missus bought me a home studio type set up for Crimbo. Light stands, umbrella, softbox, backdrop, tripod and all that jazz. I know most of the people around here are more into "natural" photography but I love all forms.
Here are a few of my first ever home studio shots:
Remote control for the camera is by far my best ever purchase. Was like £1.70 or something on ebay.

With the grandkids with me today it was pretty much impossible to search out the normal interesting or wildlife pics. They ran me ragged all day as wanted to climb and investigate. decided to concentrate on getting some decent pics of them instead. Quite like these two. I had been placing them in the various windows of an old ruin where they had spent an age running around. They decided they wanted to sit in windows at oppsite ends of the ruin and shout over to each other.
When I moved round to take some pics of the wee man I noticed that I could also view the lass at the other end.

Bought this off eBay yesterday and I'm really chuffed with it. 20X optical zoom in a camera that's no bigger than a deck of cards. How do they do that?

When I put my tracksuit on, Kizzy lies on her back and squeezes under my foot as if to say, "If you're going out dressed like that, it will have to be over my dead body".
