I've just been reading the schedule for season 3 of the UKIPT and came across the fact they are taking 3% of prizepool as costs for floor staff is this even acceptable?

Link: http://www.ukipt.com/tournaments/

£700+£70 for all events and then 3% took out of PP, is this even fair?

What is even the point of rake, if £70 isn't already enough.

Quick simple maths:

300 runners in a touney = PP of £210,000, then you take away £6,300 for the extra costs! Not to mention that they have already took £21,000 in rake.

Am I the only one thinking WTF?

Haven't Pokerstars always done that?

Not ALL UKIPT events and not the UKIPT Dusk Till Dawn, on their web site, there is not a * next to UKIPT Nottingham, Swansea or Edinborough and they have not told us any different.

I think you will find this happens when the company supplying the dealers stipulates this as part of the contract with Pokerstars, so its not Pokerstars that are making any financial gain.

I don't think I'm speaking our of line or breaching any confidentiality, to say that I believe the UKIPT runs at significant operating loss, the benefits to Pokerstars being this loss is offset by extra online revenue through generation, re-activation and retention of online players.

Cheers Rob

Aspers

Jeez, gl them!

We went there 3 or 4 years ago, it was fine, a little small perhaps, but nice. Then they built a wall which cut the cardroom precisely in half, & we had 70 players in each of two rooms, seperated by a damn wall, that went well! Maybe they have removed the wall - I hope so. We still support & visit Aspers Newcastle, & hope to be using Aspers Stratford next year, but Swansea, not so much I'm afraid, they did not treat us too well, as Tighty will testify.

For South Wales, we now use an independent, "Les Croupiers", in Cardiff, which is abolutely the greatest. No frills, but 25 or 30 Tables in a single, rectangular, plain, room, & with a Chinese Restaurant at one end which serves a grand meal for a fiver. Splendid!

I believe last year the 3% was taken out to cover the extra costs of legs that were not held in a licensed casino (ie Edinburgh and Brighton etc) and only at those events...

Just shows, if you are good enough, & have image & street cred, you can get away with anything.

At the Balmoral Hotel too, never been there but I heard there is practically no free parking, £25 for 24 hours parking nearby.  Disaster for anyone not staying close to the place.

Oh my, wow!

It's a truly wonderful Hotel, but I cannot think of a less likely more surprising place to hold a Poker Tourney.

It's a pukka, genuine, 5 Star luxury Hotel, one of the Rocco Forte jobs. As Mr Fett notes, no car parking at all that I am aware of, you'd need to park in the Railway Station Car Park, probably cost £20 per day or more. There are a few hotels nearby, but nothing "sensibly priced".

It is smack in the centre of the City, bounded by Princes Street on one side, & Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station on the other side, in fact, technically, it is part of the Station, which is the 2nd largest in the UK.  Back in the day, it was known as the "North British Hotel", owned by the railway. You get off the train, & walk up some 500 bloody steps directly into the Hotel.

I honestly cannot imagine anyone would be allowed in the place wearing hoodies & the like & I do mean that - it's well posh. To give you a flavour of how posh, they have afternoon tea in the Lounge every day, & a resident harpist serenades you. Which is nice, but hardly what Mr Cody, Mr Dempsey, Trigg  & Co are going to relish.....

Lots of nice eateries locally, though.

The entrance is manned 24/7 by Commissionaires, dressed beautifully in greatcoats, & kilts.

A standard room, off-season, would be, I guess, around £200, with Suites - most of the Hotel is suites - starting, off-season, at £500 per night. Nice suites, mind.

In the main photo, the big thing is the Hotel, with Princes Street to the left, Railway Station to the right.

Geo the Sarge may know some more cost-effective local Hotels, I'll word hm.

Alex Goulder would feel very much at home there, if you get my drift.
