Not condoning violence like though.

Put it down to experience mate. Alls well that ends well.

Try this one.
Wednesday in the park next to the school 30 kids or so playing on the slides and climbing frames etc.
Thursday go to the park and half of the stuff has gone AWOL and all the mums say the council are replacing it.
Friday morning before school all mums up in arms because it is alleged Gypsies have taken the equipment for scrap.

Now my dilemma is this. I know 100% who the culprits will be and thought at first to drive past where they live and check it out. Then thought what good would that do. I would never consider going to the police for personal reasons so do I just ignore it?

And why am I sat here feeling guilty about what Tom might say when my kids ain't got climbing frames to play on.

I'm confused Jase. If you know 100% who has it, why do you need to ride past to confirm it?

Why are you worried about what I would say. Why would I say anything?
They have a very distinctive van and sounding horn Tom and i dont know 100% they have it but i know who they will be thinking of. they come round for scrap about every 4 weeks and were in our area on tuesday. All the women were saying its Gypsies and i did not ask em how they know for defo or even if they are Gypsies/travellers.

i dont know how to put it over in the correct way and it is my failing that i am finding it difficult because i know you and would not need to find a way of explaining myself if i did not know you.

YEAH was pretty afraid of this due to my ignorance.
Turns out they have been caught on the cctv from the village hall next door and police already have them in custody.

The thing is Jase, why did I get a mention itt? Is it because I'm a Gypsy and they are Gypsies? What difference does that make?

Put it over any way you like, I won't be offended. Honest.

If they took the playground stuff, they took it. if they didn't, they didn't. Just the same as anyone else.

You posted it as if it was a big dilemma with me at the centre.

Why were you "sat here feeling guilty about what Tom might say when my kids ain't got climbing frames to play on".

Why would I say anything? You didn't even have to make me aware of it.

I'll end with a smiley, just in case you think I've got the hump  Smiley

I could be waaaaaay off here but will give it a go anyway.  There's a good chance he's been turned away a bit from the typical stereo typing (as have more of us) thanks to your educating us Tom.

Now when something goes wrong that happens to involve a Gypsy or two, it feels almost wrong to be angry.  Despite there being good and bad in all walks of life, we're more protective because of you and don't feel right to pin blame without a LOT more proof than we would normally require.  And even with the proof, it's still hard to say so because we know how much shite you've had to face just because you're a Gypsy.

I could be wrong on his behalf (apologies if I am) and not even sure if I explained that right, but it made sense in me own head.

yes this is a great post. i question myself and ask am i prejudice  and its quite embarrassing. my main thought should be some gits have stolen the kids eqiupment and whoever they are they are a bunch of tossers. prior to knowing Tom i would probably just have accepted "oh yeah it must have been them". Now i am thinking well i can just drive past where they live and see if they have the stuff (am i discriminating by thinking i could do this. If a crack addict burgles someone i would not even consider going to his house to see if he has the stuff)

Then i question would they really be that stupid to have been seen in the area collecting scrap (that most people do appreciate this) and then store the stolen slides and frames on their site. This then makes me ask if they got moved on by the police  why would they return and commit the crime in front of cctv. (there are some signs saying the village hall is protected by 24 hour surveillance). And now i sit here thinking maybe i should ring the police to find out whats actually happened and snap think to myself wtf  does it really have to do with me. Very confusing.

I question am i prejudice and i suppose in a way the closest analogy i can make is with the racists. i dont have a problem with the edl kids with who you know what you are getting as they very often have it tattooed on their forehead. the racists i despise are the ones who dont even know they are racist and try  to hide the fact and generally try to laugh things off like "oh you're not a proper one of them" or "i have some very good coloured friends".

Am i being prejudice against these guys without even knowing it and in a round about way by trying to give them the benefit of the doubt making matters worse. Huh?
