Local casino puts on poker festival and 1st game is tonight which is a £50 freeze out with £5 reg fee dealer dealt 5000 chip starting stack. Optional extra is 2000 extra chips for additional £10

Game is underway with over 130 runners and players notice the players pool is NOT including the additional £10 purchases. When cardroom staff are asked about this they are told the additional £10s are NOT being added to the prize pool.

Its head office decision and being trialled there tonight.
Apparently it won't happen again after tonight but not the point is it!
Ended up with 137 runners and £6850 in the pot but with the £10s would have been over £8k.

yes mate but every entry knows prior to entering what the costs are in Vegas. This was NOT told to players here prior to game starting. It was only when players pointed out the players prize pool that it was announced.  Big big diff that

maybe they didn't explain it as they should have if they've never done it before but it's completely standard and certainly not grimming players

Sorry mate I disagree with you the mferking greedy casinos wanna pack it in they will have over 100 players tonight who will spend/ blow money on table games etc ,and they still wanna keep a tenner off each player ,plus food n drink sales profits off over 100+ people ,as that ain't comped either ,it's a very bad / greedy attitude to their clients and shows how shallow and Money grabbing they are .
It is also a very good reason to boycott places like this  and put more support to dtd which puts back into the poker community in so many ways

I'm assuming they're not keeping the tenners and they're going to the dealers. obv if the casino is keeping the tenners then it's out of order and none of my previous post applies

I've yet to see this on the Grosvenor estate, but I have noticed that it is taking place at other clubs.

Personally, it doesn't bother me. I wouldn't begrudge paying £10 towards the dealing staff for an extra 2000 in chips.

I can appreciate that if you're new to the premise, that you might feel that it was mis-sold, but I already associate the 'dealer bonus for extra chips' as the money going to the staff.

It doesn't go to the house.

I wish I was able to do something like that at my venue. It would be a good hit and it'd stop me losing dealers to Genting who are supplementing the income of their staff by adding in this surplus 'tip', if you will.

Yeah pretty standard in the US.

I really detest it tho, as everyone is forced in taking the 2000 chips as it is +ev to do so. I mean in theory if you could get everyone to agree not to do it, then we would all benefit but there will always be one or two angling for the edge.

I would just like to see clear reg fees (which include a dealer appreciation), when people buyin and then the customer can make his choice based on that. Not all this underhand way of charging the players more.

Surely you can't begrudge leaving a tip for the dealing / floor staff ?

20% tip is a bit toppy.

Doubt anyone would moan about £1 or maybe £2.

the problem is it's normally too high. in the example in the op you're looking at a 20% tip

Yeah sorry when u put it as a % I suppose it is
A tenner off each player at say a 9 handed table = 90 £ .prolly each dealer averages 6 hours dealing = 15£ an hour in tips less a bit for other floor staff ?
So yeah when u add it all up it is a tidy sum

this £10 was kept by the casino, and not a dealer tip
