People will be remembering and singing Oasis songs for years to come because they're catchy and sometimes anthemic.  I don't think that makes them tremendous though.  Lyrically they're pretty shite.

And one more for dating Justine Frischmann but writing graciously and poignantly about the loss afterwards. Compare and contrast

You don't need to tell me
I hope you're with someone who makes you

I won't kill myself, trying to stay in your life

yeah but you missed the next verse where it gets really deep and the rhymes are much cleverer

She's got a brother, we don't get on with one another, but I quite fancy her mother, and I think that she likes me
She's got a cousin, in fact she's got about a dozen, and she's got one in the oven, but it's nothing to do with me

I used to have a proper crush on frischmann. would rate elastica above blur actually, one of the best debut albums ever, though they are responsible for the most disappointing gig ever

Intense!

Quite anthemic, yes.
They clearly just sat around stoned at 2am trying to find anything that rhymed.

Pretty nice I agree gatso. Used to break down in tears after the split, on hearing his songs about her. Now an artist (painting) in magic America, married to some prof.

Both bands big favourites of mine pretty much from the first listen but Oasis will enjoy more longevity than Blur have for sure though. Just from a quick google/wiki the estimates put record sales at 60-70 million for Oasis and 15-20 million for Blur. Oasis had the Knebworth gigs too which were obv huge.

If one has to be banished to Room 101 I'd be Oasis for me though. Graham Coxon is just too good a guitarist.

That's my point, they're not bad - but greatest band ever? Just don't get it.
