never been a big drinker, can someone explain to me the progression they had, from having no experience of vodka, to now being able to distinguish the nuances in taste, aside from the flavoured ones of course.. I know i am being slightly ignorant here of vodka, but thought it was all the same.

a lot of time spent living in eastern europe means I've tried a scary number of different brands. when you're buying by the bottle and drinking it neat as everyone does you don't buy paintstripper, you buy something nice

Hmm my ex lived in the Ukraine for a year and she told me the locals bought the cheapest shit vodka they could lay their hands on. My personal experience in different parts of the world tells me exactly the same.

so would I if, as matt says, I was necking VRBs but if I want to taste the vodka I'll have something nice rather than one of  the worst tasting available that just happens to have had a huge marketing spend over the years that's successfully convinced the public that it's nice

Anyone explain this, a .70cl bottle of Grey Goose is £33.69 why is a 1.5L bottle of exactly the same drink £99 ?

is that a real thing? ridic if so

yeah they do generally but I was on western wages and lived like a king and there are some awesome brands as well as terrible ones. I have drunk an awful lot of paintstripper with locals too though, most of it was better than smirnoff

JD and coke is a bit wanky really. Try one of these bad boys and please lose the coke. Much smoother and a lot stronger:

Much smoother and a lot stronger would be a description of savouring a pint i would have thought. So you sip at it and appreciate the texture? Or you down it and then wait until afterwards to get the taste. Anytime i have dealt with any straight spirit i down it as fast as possible and always struggled with it, but feel good soon after obv. I am exuding feminine qualities here but its out of ignorance.

Can't see a pint being stronger than single barrel JD. Unless it's a pint of meths I suppose.

Defo sip it to appreciate the texture and taste. You can even have a smell if you like. Downing it is totally out of the question.

You'll need a decent glass for it as well. 24% lead crystal tumbler should do the trick. It may sound stupid but it really does make a difference.

You should notice that despite getting ridiculously drunk on this stuff that your hangover is relatively mild. Don't know why this is but it's always the case.

Think the best you'll get at spoon's is Smirnoff and Bell's.

Smirnoff Black Label is what I drank at university when I could - I can't be sure of actual quality, but the fact that you could drink it neat straight from the freezer and I liked it's flavour was a good sign.
