With the 24hr cash game pending I decided to try out a button holdem game tonight. Basically whoever wins the pot gets the button for the next hand.
Been eager to try this for a while but couldn't think of a good way to do it. Whenever I have seen this format in tournaments the poor guys next to mr aggressive always get screwed with the blinds.
Instead I decided all players post a £1 ante and the action begins with player directly to the left of the button (formally the small blind)
If a person wants to play they must bet a minimum of £2.
The action continues round to the button who will now act last after every round.
£200 min £1000 cap.
The game definitely created more action, forcing the tighter players to loosen up and actually slows down some of the more aggro guys. At least this is my initial thoughts, time will tell.
I am convinced this is a better way to play and I'm sure it will catch on however at least for now it will be exclusive to Dtd Cardroom and I plan to introduce it to more tables for next weeks 24hr weekend.
As the night progressed we introduced a button bonus.
If a player won the button 3 consecutive times he was in the bonus zone. If he won the next pot he received a fiver bonus off every player. And again if he won the next, and again, and again and so on. The button bonus will stay until someone else wins a pot. Sick how much this alters things.
(The button bonus won't be in effect during cash game week unless the entire table agrees. Payouts will be amongst the players and have nothing to do with the club)
Look to run this game at 3 stake levels
£1 ante £200-1000
£2 ante £400-2000
£5 ante £1000 no cap
Let me know if you want a seat at the start, I think you will love it
