Why do you care?

Does he owe you money? Are you a friend of Lewis'?

why didnt you post this to Camel?

I mean I think Marc will pay it back eventually. I think Marc AND Lewis have handled this terribly but I don't think Marc isn't deserving of some criticism here. And yet again I have to say I like Marc.

Alex, will post anything to try and have a go at me lolz

But has Lewis handled this bad? He has been conned by a guy he chose to trust and look what happened. Dubai makes a very very good point about how he could have attempted to get some if his money, but all Lewis has done has given had given Marc chance after chance. We are in a community where trust is key to transactions and look... Perhaps Lewis has been to trustworthy?

Marc had told lie after lie. 80% is actually 60%, and did his account get locked in November hence the no payments until feb? Donee believe he has actually no stars acct at this time?

Marc can always ignore Aaron's posts, like we all can!

Ha, winner! Cheesy

I'm not Aarons biggest fan but I don't see that he is being particularly out of order here.  I am surprised that you, as a professional poker player, don't care.  You buy and sell pieces all the time and have benefitted hugely from the trust that is implicit within this system of trust that operates between gamblers.  A professional player like Marc not paying a swap like this undermines that entire system and if it isn't publicised and the entire community comes out against it and condemn it is dangerous to the whole ecology.  Everytime something like this happens it makes someone else decide to walk away from buying pieces or making swaps.  As a community we have a duty to be self policing and this attitude that it is alright because he is a good player and will pay eventually or he will make it coaching and pay undermines the key principles of that ecology.  EVERYONE is under it sometimes and a bit of slow paying happens to literally every player at some point but it is about the way you deal with it when it happens.  Marc was given plenty of time on this despite the fact it wasn't the first offence and everyone was very lenient.  He hasn't stck to that.  At what point does he get condemned?

Camel is older and wiser than me. And I've met him in real life and liked him.  I can't say the same about Aaron. His posts do seem more constructive and the tone is less aggressive and douchey than Aaron's.

It's jokes how people now get chastised for asking wtf in these threads. I've learnt from these guys that it's no big deal to pay late and it's a regular habit, you should wise-up and chase somebody around the country to get your money, and if your horse binks before the ME you get sacked off. Staking sure seems an attractive proposition.

if threads like this really bothered him as much as he and his mates make out then surly he would have paid up sharpish to avoid it being re-opened, apparently not. Open season for any grimmer good lad or not.

That's very kind of you to say Alex, but Cos's post did get me thinking. Why have I have been harder on Marc (and I cannot deny I have) than other people in similar situations?

Well firstly he did steal money from of my mates. He paid it back (eventually) but it was definitely a theft.

He asked to swap FTP money for Stars and my friend sent first, but Marc obviously didn't have the money to send back.

If that had been it, I would have been disdainful of Marc in all future dealings, but not quite so tough on him I don't think.

I had shared a table with Marc in Dublin and thoroughly enjoyed his presence, he's obviously a really good player and undeniably decent company.

If he had asked me to do the swap, I would have done it immediately and without question.

I guess in some ways I am angry with myself for judging someone so incorrectly.

But beyond that I don't think Marc is a totally hopeless case, he's got decent mates you stick up for him and believe in him.

I do think he can turn his life around, but I'm pretty sure he needs the stick rather the carrot to help him on his way.

If he was a hopeless case, he'd have ignored this thread reappearing and just slagged me off (which he's prolly doing in private anyway lol).

But he hasn't ignored it, he's at least intimated that he is going to do the right thing and pay Lewis his money.

Let's hope he goes through with it and continues to at least try to be more responsible for his actions in the future and then there will be no more embarrassing threads.

This whole thing is a total shambles.

1) its was born out of the most absurb piece of life-failing on Marc's part

2) has been handled terribly by both parties from the offset, Marc has this horribly defensive instinct which snap comes out whenever he gets criticism and it makes him look very bad - I've had lots of dealings with Marc, business and personal and it's a poor reflection of him, he's actually better than that

3) WTF he's doing with the paying is beyond me - it's fairly obvious he could have paid more than this but its impossible and inproper to comment on his personal situation, one thing I will say though is that it's not unusual for people to slow pay on debts lol, i've done it and had it done to me over and over it's just one of them things.

People are allowed to be as harsh on Marc as they like as well, it's a Forum, steer clear of personal abuse (which everyone has) and have your own opinion and post it, if you think Marc's out of line and feel the need to say so then do, if you think someone is being OOL saying he's being OOL then you can post that, but the whole "Why aren't more people being harsh/Why are you being so harsh" debate is just fucking boring tbh.

Call me a c*** if I'm wrong, but did you weigh Dubai in for this ?

Strange post in a thread full of them. Really late and unrelated. A lot of craziness throughout, I don't know why people can't just talk and sort something out. Hurry up and pay/get stars sorted, need someone to rail now and again.

This thread ain't about me Smiley never had anyone complain, but I am flattered you looked through all the threads to try find anything that you could not have a 100% read on. No idea on what happened, maybe do some more digging and see if I cashed for $4 or bubbled Wink

it's fairly obvious he could have paid more than this

It's as simple as that.  You don't choose (directly) what reputation you have, despite a lot of younger players seemingly thinking that's how it works.  Your reputation is earned/deserved and awarded to you by everyone else in the poker community.  After showing genuine remorse and taking remedial action regardless of personal inconvenience, reputations can be and are restored.  But not because you so say, but because everyone else says so,.

AFAICS, there isn't any genuine remorse to this day, there has been a deliberate slow pay, money is still owed = bad rep deserved.
