World Championship starts in a month, so here's a livener: challenger, Fabiano Caruana, saw off one of the world's best players, Shak Mamedyarov, with the white pieces last week in the Olympiad.

Mamedyarov has just played Qg7, as you can see.

Btw for anyone interested chess.com do a speed world championship which is streamed on twitch with commentary and its pretty good. The matches are every 3 or 4 days it seems.

neat finish. would really like fabio to push Magnus in the upcoming match.

I know it's a tough ask but I felt when vishy faced him the games went into Magnus style games really often. So would be nice if somehow fabio could avoid lots of slightly worse endings and test Magnus in some middle games.

Also out of interest as I see you post in this thread a ton how much do you play? do you play otb a lot?

I ask a I mainly play on lichess I did join a club but that was 10 years ago now and I didn't really like it tbh

Played on the junior circuit pretty seriously. Then weekend tournaments as a grown up. Now just local league and the odd county game.

Still follow the game.
