I still maintain that those people who get paid salaries at the end of the month (which will be a large majority of people) are back in their overdraft by the 2nd week of the month and can't just ante up the dough unless they win a seat.

And the guy still pushes the boundarys in Uk Poker well done Rob, i need a bandage for when the sign fell on my head at table 13 last night.
sorry pal
You really shouldn't be sorry. It was hilarious
Bad news about the potential overlay. How heavily do you think the number of runners would be affected if the guarantee was dropped to £25k? It's still a bloody big number and makes it worth the trip knowing you're in a pool of 167 ish runners.
I would think most people are playing it anyway whatever the guarantee. Sure you'll get a few value hunters come along for late reg when they see the big overlay but I'd guess you're not particularly targeting those anyway?
I'd assume that at this buy in level you're getting a lot of recreational players. I can't see them being overly concerned if it's £25k or £50k. Pros aren't going to make the effort unless they're local and the fact that they're local means they'll play it anyway.
I know the big guarantees look lovely but apart from the huge comps which attract pros and amateurs from further afield I can't see how they're overly necessary.
Kudos for sticking with them but I don't think anyone would complain if they were a bit lower.

I think its a combination of stuff....
but one of the reasons has got to be there are just too many good looking comps to play, the working guy cant play every weekend

Certainly true for me. Would love to be playing £150 comps every weekend but more than one a month is asking a lot. Would at least need to run a lot better than I have been of late!
Also true that a two/day comp eats up the entire weekend and 3 or more of those a month isn't as appealing to those who have other things on.
Please don't take this as a rant. It's just like getting asked out on a date by all 5 of the Saturdays the same night you're due to see Sienna Miller. You know you can't complain but you have to make horrible sacrifices!

This is a very good point. It's often difficult for me to free up a full weekend for poker so I have to pick and choose which comps I'll play. I certainly can't play them all or I'd have no life outside of poker.
In this respect I'll pick the one which is most appealing to definitely play (atm the £500k guaranteed) and maybe play something else if I've got nothing else on.
Maybe one reason for the low turn out this weekend is that people are saving towards the £500k or doing their conkers trying to sat in?
Love the analogy as well

generally, not exactly, but on average a typical month at DTD would be:
Week 1 - £300 or £500 Deepstack
Week 2 - One day event £100 ish ( we close Sunday)
Week 3- £150 Deepstack 2 day event)
Week 4 - Third party event, Sky, Blackbelt, Redtooth or we have a Grand Prix/Chip Leader
then every few months something bigger, Supersized event, or WSOP (hmmmmmmmmmm) event
then once a year - Monte Carlo / CPP type stuff
Generally we have 26 weeks spare a year to do £150 Deepstacks or £100 one day events, sometimes we get stungs - sometimes we dont, today was OUCH and very wierd as Friday was on par with our expectations.
Because we run so much poker stuff, the law of averages says we will come unstuck, at least it goes to the players and thats what DTD is about really, no matter what our knockers say, we pretty much chuck everything we make of reg fees back to the players and then the gaming we have pays our gaming tax bill.
When our headline events screw up, like the £500 or the CPP, thats a serious body blow, when our weekly stuff goes wrong, its like a bad beat rather than getting knocked out the comp, so annoying but the show goes on - thanks for support

Really shouldn't scrap re-entries completely IMO. That and late starts are two of the only gripes I have....Sorry make that 3; those horrible bits of sticky black stuff on some of the chips.

The final will be live streamed on

Someone who is commentating is going to be on the M1 today earlier than he had planned

Rick Whiteley has had 2 final tables in the last 5 comps and cashed the other 3. He had a golden chip so about time he won one.
