Yep. more traps + more chances.

The real secret is to think like a mouse. Would you stroll out across a wide open floor where some great hairy beast could grab you? Some bloke might flatten you in his panic to stand on a chair, or perhaps the dog might get you.

Far better to stay in the shadows, as close to the wall as possible.

Put your trap close to a dark wall, (parallel) preferably behind or under some furniture.

Be concious of your scent, wear gloves when handling the trap.

Use chocolate as bait and drop a few tiny shavings along the wall a foot or so away from the trap.

Thanks Red-Dog. Just read about the scent. Should I just wash the traps and start again?
Also, is there any chance that if you put bait away from the trap, that they'll just take that and leave?

The best way to remove the scent from the traps is to leave them out in the sun (If we ever get any) for a few hours.

Drop a few tiny slivers of chocolate away from the trap, it's like eating one Malteaser, you just can't do it. He'll be desperate to find more.

Little blighter lapped up the shards and skipped the trap.

Surprised he didn't leave a thank you note.

i guess the mouse trap will work, or borrow someones border collie and let them loose. we used to put ours in the shred when it was ful of mice for about 20 mins and open the door and find the floor strewn with mice. (used to just nip the back of their necks kill them and drop them)

Gutted. I felt like a drug dealer last night with my petrol station gloves on, preparing no fewer than 12 traps with various baits from cheese spread to Morrison's finest chocolate. I put them down the side of cabinets, under the fridge, skirting boards, etc.

Didn't catch a dicky bird, nor a mouse.

I haven't seen the fella for around four days (and it was my only sighting) - is it possible he was on his tod and has since met his death, or perhaps found greener grass elsewhere? I can't understand why not a single trap was set off, especially if there's a posse.

Has anyone had any success with this?



p.s. My dog can't catch his own tail, despite numerous efforts. He's not going to catch Speedy Gonzales.

Saw a mouse last night for the first time in a good few days.

Absolutely baffled. I've been putting 12 traps out every night as they just don't touch them.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

There used to be as the dog would eat his kibble in there, but we've changed that. Food cupboards are all high up, and we also have a cleaner who mops the floor every week.

I've been spreading them around the room. Would it be best to group the traps instead in the key areas (i.e. under fridge)?

No. Spread em around, all in quiet / dark places.

Did you try my bait suggestion - wholemeal bread squeezed up in a little ball - as I said I tried this and caught the mouse first night.  I placed it on the floor by a little gap between cupboards just under the workspace where it had been eating crumbs.
