I think this might raise an interesting topic on Blonde.

I am not one to say I do not swear, but I am wondering what peoples views are when you start hearing little kids younger than 10 swearing when around parents, etc? I do sometimes find it amusing, but the parents don't mind it at all, shocking in my view.

When you have a visitor in the house and you've got one parent telling their kid to tell them to "fuck off" or something. This seems pretty common pratice these days.

My next door neighbours kids are awful for it, every word that comes out of their mouth is a swear word and it's quite clear that this is the fault of the parent and they perhaps encourage it. You dinf them playing on the back garden and all I can hear is "Fuck" and so on. Not to mention the little lad (about 8 ) hurt himself on his bike and shouted "Ahhhhh mi bollocks" - funny at the time, but why is this happening?

I am only 22 and being honest here, I do swear fromt ime to time, but I would never swear in front of my parents. If one does slip out I get told off, even at my age!

So why on earth is this happening?!

I asked my 7 year old cousin what he thought about this and he said it was a fucking disgrace.

Parents who don't give a shit, and they hear it all the time from their peers and on TV and in music lyrics - so they simply mimic.

Not being a parent myself I obviously can't suggest any solutions on this or have a valid opinion...

They aren't been taught to swear, they just pick it up.  It can be their own parents, can be other adults, can be other kids.

Their parents may just appear to not mind, but the best policy is usually to ignore it.  If they find out you are irritated with them using a particular word, they will just repeat it.  It is just what kids do.

If you swear now, chances are you are going to struggle to 100% switch it off in front of your kids.  I absolutely try not to, but sometimes you just can't help yourself.

When my oldest barely knew a handful of words, she had gastroenteritis.  This meant quite a few nappy explosions.  I'd just finished cleaning her up,  when she managed to spray another load out all over the changing mat and her clothes. I just went FFS as you do.  She immediately repeated it straight back at me word perfect.

This but add a 5 as well as the reversal.

It amazes me how foul mouthed some people are around their families. A girl friend of mine for example uses 'f**k' when talking to her mother as part of normal conversation. Her mother replies pretty much the same.

I guess if you're bought up in a swearing family it's not a problem. I personally think it's disgusting but to some people it's just standard talk and doesn't mean any offence whatsoever.

It's all down to boundaries or lack of them. Too many parents treat their kids like friends foregoing any parent/children divides. This, IMO, cause a lack of respect which kids take forward in life.

I'm not saying parents shouldn't be approachable and understanding I'm saying they should be there to offer moral guidance and support. This seems to be lacking more and more in society especially in some social demographics.

You have - naturally, given your line of work - hit the nail on the head: you control your language out of respect.

Some of my friends are tattooed, ex-football-firm lager lovers. They use the f word while they think of other words to say. It seems like it replaces inward breaths at times. A woman walks in and it is not uttered once. Should anyone mis-speak, they apologise or they are encouraged to do so by someone else!

Chivalry isn't dead but it does have a nasty cough.

My Dad says back when he was a kid if he was disrespectful he would get a clip round the ear. And his Dad would thank the guy for doing it. Wonder how much thanks I would get if next time I hear a child swear in Tesco I use a rolled up copy of The Times to slap the little blighter across the face?
