Lets face it the beautiful game was the best when we were growing up. The game was fresh and we weren't so cyncial.
Post your favourite players, memories, incident etc of yesteryear.
What inspired me for this thread was this man
I have never been or ever will be a supporter of Man City(especially the club they are today) but Kinkladze was an amazing player to watch in a terrible team, pure football romance!

Great thread.
I had no idea Kinkladze was that good.
I loved natural finishers like Fowler and Shearer, they were so so good at finding the back of the net every single time.
There are no strikers as incred at finishing as they were anymore, I'd never trust the likes of Rooney, Van Persie or Aguero with a one on one as much as I would have Shearer or Fowler.

agree with that i probably say its because a striker now has to do a lot more than just score goals, shame really

my favourite ever player
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaxcdUgHm74
just look at the ball control, balance, awareness and not to mention skill
what a player dont take my word for it
"About the 1990 World Cup quarter-final against Yugoslavia in Italy. From that generation of Yugoslavian players I remember Dragan “Piksi” Stojkovic and I often ask how he and Dejan are doing. Piksi was an incredible footballer – moved across the park with such ease – it was like dancing with the most beautiful girl. He was a true star.
Diego Maradona in 2012."
still got it as the last ten seconds shows!

Amazing thread!
Gonna have a little think about my most spine tingling moment, just so many to choose from.
+1 to the Fowler love. He was worshipped in our house and rightfully claimed the space on the back of my top until Owen won my heart.
When we were commentating on ourselves I would always be Owen, Gazza or If I was feeling a little continental, Ravanelli. (he scored a hatrick against us on his debut for boro, I was at that game and was utterly stunned by watching him. Ended 3-3) if you were in goal it would be Seaman ldo
Edit. when i scored a screamer i would often shout Le Tissier who was another hero.

Dalglish in his prime was brilliant. Best player I've seen in the premier league is probably Henry.

86 World Cup was immense. Lineker was incred in that tournament. Maradonna was breathtaking and won the cup single handedly for Argentina.
90 was all about Gascoigne. I still miss not having Gazza in the England side today. Michael Carrick isn't a like for like replacement imo
.
Best team: I remember standing on the pop side at the baseball ground when Liverpool used to come and play Derby. Rush, Barnes, Hansen, Beardsley, Mcmahon, Whelan, Nicol etc etc. We simply couldn't get the ball off them. So all the Derby fans just started cheering for Liverpool instead.

Also watched Kinkladze play many times, Derby signed him at one point. Dude was immense for about 15 minutes per game.

Mentioned in the TfT thread last night that Julian Speroni is probably my favourite ever player. Also enjoyed Caniggia's cameo at Dundee. So many heros for me at Dundee growing up. Sara, Caballero, Nemsadze, Beto, Artero......
Turns out Kinkladze was only the 2nd best Georgian. Step forward Georgi Nemsadze...

EDIT: No idea what is wrong with the link, nvm.
