and tug of war used to be an olympic sport it no longer is so has to have been dropped at one point

Tug-of-War isn't a sport. It is a Track & Field event.
Tug-of-war was always contested as a part of the track and field athletics programme, although it is now considered a separate sport.

So it wasn't an Olympic sport. Glad you agree.

I didn't see any race walking this year. And I pretty much watched the Olympics from start to finish

there was some i saw it

incidentally, demonstration sports still receive medals, they just don't count towards the final medal table.
