Special Bets

Youve all seen them advertised- like last night lad comes on for Man Utd and Hills have laid his Dad £100@100s he plays first team game for Man U when the player was 9 years old. They always claim to do some research, obviously a footballing family is far more likely to succeed in the bet etc, plus he was probably on the books somewhere anyway. So anyways it got me thinking..
Whats the hardest type of these bets to win? Betting a newborn to win a golf major has got to be one of them? Realistic price?

Something that the bookie will factor into this (and why it may be a good bet for you) is that they know if it cops, they'll be able to get more than the value of the bet in the value of equivalent advertising that running the win as a news story will get them in the papers.
So when Crab Junior beats Tiger Woods Junior in a playoff in the 2034 Masters they'll make sure it gets plenty of coverage in the press with the 98 year old Graham Sharpe getting his mug in the papers again.

My wife has a bet on my eldest daughter 3 will play for England at footy before 21. 50/1 only £10 at Hills, they didn't do any research and seemed happy to take my wonga. Wife played at international level so I am happy with the odds, esp for womens..

Yeah of course. But most of these bets are normally a max 10k payout. Was thinking realistic price of winning a major must be 100,000-1+ with no golf pedigree in family. So would take 10,000-1. Even £100 pays £1m. Good publicity allround.
What about price to play in a Ryder Cup? Obviously was easier than winning a major and topical at moment as its on

I remember Graham Sharpe saying claiming they normally do a bit of research. Did they ask any questions?

50/1 is a terrible price without the under 21 clause.
With the clause, they should have worn masks when they took the bet.

IMO If you good enough in the women's game you can be playing for national team a much earlier age than the mens equivalent. The pool of dedicated good women players is tiny It helps my wife used to play with the current England/GB manager and knows here and many of the current top coaches for the top teams. 50/1 is tight but its only for fun. If I have asked for more and upped the bet I am sure they would have checked some of our backgrounds and reduced it to 20/1.

If you'd gone for Scotland you'd have got evens.

What you say above is quite possibly true but something like 5000-1 would seem to be a fairer price. She must be more than 100-1 to be interested in football when she grows up, multiply that by any number that you like to then go on and be good. Nothing wrong with the bet though, it´s a nice bit of fun, gl.

I understand this, but there are approx 50 million people in this country, and in the 4 year period your nipper will have to play for England probably 5 million women eligible.
To put it in perspective, which do you think is more likely, your girl to play for England before she's 21 or QPR to beat West Ham 4-0 on Monday night?
Because they are the same price.

Pedigree genes and likely to have a good level of interest. Good point though.
