2-00 - A field that consists mostly of exposed runners and course plodders.  I can't see many that are likely to improve on anything they have done previously.  The exceptions would likely be Chronic Flame or Maz.  Chronic Flame has to be respected coming from a top yard who have a fairly decent record when they venture to this track.  But the early drift concerned me, there has been some support for it since it drifted.  The big plus for me is the sire, it has proven to have offspring that do well on this type of surface.  For a horse that has likely improvement in it and coming from a sire that has shown to do well this makes this one a bet for me.  Maz is also the type that will go well here I think, has progressed well on the Polytrack, doesn't have too many miles on the clock and comes from a stable that knows the time of day.  It has also seen some support with the books and exchange.

action man you mentioned about the racing post videos

not sure if you or anybody else is aware but sportinglife.com now have videos for all tracks available for free

not a big fan of the racingpost myself cancelled my sub recently.

I subscribe to flatstats which is a stats based website and a good base to work from (not the be all and end all). I use a database a friend has developed which is a lighter version of raceform interactive (very good product but pricey and brings even a new pc to halt)

I also have lots of horses in nag me alerts`

Ever heard of use 'racing research' ratings? thoughts?

mmm not particularly happy with that

lied to far back imo but hardly looked a winner waiting to happen in the last two furlongs

no

thoughts would be using "ratings" (i presume speed ratings?) are ok as a base but wont work on there own

not speed ratings, more of a form rating, pretty well regarded but agree anyting like that cant be used in isolation...

two more at southwell

4.40

RAYVIN BLACK £15 WIN 12-1 GENERAL

POSITIVES = Sire used to do ok here for whatever reason is 10-34 last 2 years massive improvement and not just by one horse maybe an anomaly but 8 different horses probably not this coincides with roughly when the track was relaid

Sire reacts well to first time headgear

Tompkins the trainer is in decent enough form

NEGATIVES = has zero form really in tougher races

tompkins hasnt had a winner here for ages but used to do really well here

5.10 POSEIDON GREY £15 WIN 12-1 GENERAL

POSITIVES=

sire again does well here and has improved last few season

trainer in very good form after a quiet spell

has been running ok after finally starting to settle in its races

NEGATIVES=

looks a bit limited really but this is a poor race

Both speculative but worth chancing in tough races
