WPT Hand 1. Top pair pressure
«

First level of day three, new table, all unknown to me, as am I to them. I have played one hand with villain so far: I've opened the hijack on his bb with
and he's peeled we've checked down AKJK6 board and I've value bet the river 1/4 pot and he's called so he's seen my hand.
Here is a picture I took of villain to help our analysis!
OK so blinds are 2.5k/5k we open
to 10k in the hijack and the button peels. He looks at his cards and very quickly flicks in the call without considering 3betting or folding.
Check, we bet 14k, fold, he tanks for quite a long time. Not thinking about folding imo, thinking about raising. He calls.
He takes a few seconds, then checks again. I think for a similar length of time and bet 30k. He takes even longer than on the flop, takes the chips to call of his stack. Thinks for longer, then reaches for more chips. He puts in a stack of 5k chips saying "90k". Dealer says he's miscounted and put in 85. He flicks in another 5k chip.
He has 100k back and we cover but only just.
Thoughts on his range? I had a really bad feeling at the time and felt he was really strong even though he's repping very thin.

Why did you bet the turn, with your spidey sense?
Fold now i guess, maybe same hand tho. If hes good could be super snap pre with dem aces too. I have a hard time going against my feelings here, sometimes i choose theory > feeling and i think feeling wins out overall.

Felt I still had to bet - getting called by worse so often, we basically have the nuts given the action, one small feeling of "something's funny here" isn't enough at this stage to override an ultra standard bet.

If it wasn't a big enough feeling to check, not sure its as easy a fold. Timebank please.

His behaviour on the turn after I'd bet added some more weight to the read though.
The counting out a call, and then reaching for raising chips is a pretty strong tell.

Wow really lame, you have the
too which makes it more likely his hand is made here.
If I had a set here I'd deffo check raise the flop as you are getting action from a jack and it looks like you're repping a tight range so it looks BS. Now he looks even stronger taking this line so wtf?
Fold and don't tell anyone

Those curtains are hideous. Million dollar tournament and some Birmingham curry house has exposed windows tonight.
Also, even I think that's a fold. How often does a guy call, then c/c c/r with air? He would have to put you on nothing to be confident you were folding. He isn't to know you are folding Top-Top there, right?
Out of interest, what would you do with QQ there? KK? What's your jam hand?

My goodness Tal, you do ask the most pertinent of questions. Well deserved that place in the advent calendar.
Very interested in Alex's answer to this question....

Looks like this guy.
Regarding hand, he reps so thin but unsure whether I'm getting levelled as I can't see him taking this line with a bluff apart from something bizarre like a QT float.
Probably folding and hating life.

Your feeling on the turn is definately enough for you to check back turn and re-evaluate river. Still can value bet big on most rivers when checked to, also catch bluffs from all his missed draws. His line is strong but the fact that he called you when u had J5 hand in the most obvious 'never bluffing' spot tells me he's not that good and could just do this with Jx and not know why he's doing it.
Check back, call river. Unless spidey senses are still acting up. Or just value bet huge if he checks IMO.
