Sky, Lampre, Euskaltel and Astana only teams left with all nine starters still in race. Brutal day but gets tougher still...

Crazy day today
Wonder if the season is taking it's toll on the teams?
Giro was a tough tour due to the ridic weather TdF was the toughest for years in the mountains
Perhaps it's finally taken it's toll
Before the mountain stages started our boy was 20.0 on betfair, I haven't been watching the race so thought he must be struggling. Quite glad to get positives updates from Tonji

Thinking about it, a three week bike race is just plain madness. But it harks back to the early days of the Tour de France. The organisers hope was that only one rider would survive! Today riders were just surviving.

Nibali & Horner coped the best today, & will be pretty much just watching each other. Rodriguez could only follow wheels. Valverde recovered on the last climb & was strong. He won last year on this final climb in the Tour. Think a break can win again. Too many possibilities, its probably a case of which riders wake up & feel strong enough to get into the early attacks. I'll monitor twitter in the morning for any hints. Txurruka picked up another 4 points (10 in total now), & finished 24th on the stage, so seems to be strong still. He's lying 11th in KOM, I think that's still well placed with so many mountain stages still to come. His main rivals Edet & Ulssi are both on 13.

Pure speculative banzai. Looking for a tough young rider who seemed strong today & in a team that is looking for wins & has no GC contenders. Alex Howes, was the top Garmin rider today in 36th place. Always actively looking to get into breaks & was well involved in a difficult mountain stage in the Tour of Poland finishing 8th. 250/1 Todays winner started at a similar price.

Txurruka makes the early breakaway. Good lad, he's really putting in the effort for the KOM.

Fast start, break gets caught because a few were close to top ten, but Txurruka goes again.

Edet leading the KOM, he bagged 20 points, our man missed out Gotta hope he can mount an attack tomorrow. Will be away early in the week, got some auctions I need to view & attend.

Great stage today!
Not been able to watch as much as i'd like of this tour but from what have read Nibali has been cruising so far. He looked in a bit of trouble today, Horner and all the other big riders took a bit out of him

Eeeekkkk...desperate for Nibali to hang on. Looks like Txurruka bet is heading south Edet seems to have it in the bag.

Todays final climb. Looks like a Purito day! but so many favourites have been turned over on stages. I've not got fully up to date but Pozzovivo & Pinot lost time yesterday. Pinot can go for a long attack to break into the top five, not much to loose, all to gain. He's capable.

Fair dues to Txurruka he's made it into the break again. Edet has missed it. May be too late...but still

Tour of Britain starts sunday. http://www.tourofbritain.co.ukWiggins, Cavendish, Quintana, Ciolek & Dan Martin among the big names. A couple of riders from lesser teams also have a decent chance & perhaps an edge if the weather turns nasty & the big names are more focused on the World Championships later in the month. Awaiting some prices from the bookies...could be interesting.

Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec tonight. Sagan hot favourite. 5/1 looks generous.
