Fair dues to Txurruka he's made it into the break again. Edet has missed it. May be too late...but still He takes the points on the first cat 3 climb of the day...break has over 9 mins on the peloton.

Nibali out to 3/1 with horner massive odds on Is Nibali fooked or is it possible to come back after looking pretty dodgy for the last two climbs?

I can't believe Horner, he climbed the final climb something like 40 sec faster than Froome. Saturday on the iconic & brutal Angliru where minutes can be gained. The top three could change, but on current form Horner will be the oldest GT winner

15 points separating Edet, Ratto and Txurruka in the KOM classification. 2 Cat 3 climbs tomorrow excluding the finish, plus plenty of points available on the way to the iconic Angliru finish on Saturday. Txurruka had a hard day today coming in 7th on the stage. But seems to be up for each mornings fight to get in the breaks. Sweat still on, but a tough ask.

Giro has announced the Zoncolan will be the penultimate stage next year *good enough to find a reason for a trip out there*

Todays penultimate stage & the Angliru. Click to see full-size image. |
The organisers love to inflict hurt. Nibali has one chance to regain the red jersey. Rain would help, pleeeeeeeeeasssse.

Tour of Britain.
A short review, of sorts, of the contenders & ones to watch.
Reports suggest Sir Brad of Sky is taking this seriously. Old heads, Eisel, Hayman & Lopez, plus the massive engine of Stannard suggests Sky wants to try & control the race. Not any easy task with six man teams & bad weather predicted for the first few days. Add in the fact that the lesser teams will be at full gas not only for stage wins & high GC placings, but they love to put Sky under pressure in their home Tour. Wiggins prime aim for the final part of the season is the World ITT later in the month. Bookies make him the short priced favourite. But I've my doubts he'll maintain commitment for the whole 8 stages. Stannard (3rd in 2008) or the talented Josh Edmondson would be my options.

Movistar bring Quintana over for primarily preparation for the Worlds. He's not raced for over a month & I don't expect him to seriously go for the overall. Instead he'll test his form on stages 5 & 6.
Giovanni Visconti is likely to be given the opportunity for a high overall finish. He impressed at the Giro & seems to ride well towards the end of the season. Generally 16/1 but PP have a standout price 66/1.
