Me and a couple of mates have been chatting about travelling down to London around tues / weds next week for a couple of days of poker - there's nothing particularly going on - just going for a change of scenery...etc (+ I've been wanting to play down there for a while). The problem is that i'm total noob when it comes to finding hotels...etc especially when it comes to London as I've only been a couple of times when i was very young, and therefore don't know too much about the place.

Could anyone please help me out with the best & cheapest places to stay / recommend the best places to play...etc ? (Will most probably be playing £1/£2 for the majority of the time, however will happily flick in a tournament depending whats on).

Any help would be really appreciated as i honestly have no clue!

Stayed here on a few occasions with mates to save a few beans. Pretty basic but if all you need is a bed its ok. Ignore the nicer rooms at the top of the page, scroll down to the triple and quad rooms. Its bang opposite holland park tube station.

The best 1-2 action is found at the Hippodrome i believe, between there and the Empire you will be just fine. They also happen to be nice places to play in.

Go to the Vic if you want to play in worse games, have terrible waitress service,  be treated like an animal and play in an ugly/bland room

You have a much better chance of playing happier, drunker, relaxed and touristy people if you play in a casino in Leceister Square rather than one above an Argos.  Go for The Empire/Hippodrome combo.

There's 1/2 at the Golden Nugget round the corner I believe but I've never been in the place and I think it's quite small (one or two cash tables).

From what I have seen yesterday, Aspers Stratford.  I didn't play cash, but tournament was fishy enough and lots of cash tables running.  Cheaper hotels next door too.  Was £90 a night and got a view of olympic park from Holiday Inn.  There is a premier inn, holiday inn express nearby.  Should be easy enough getting in to town.

Singapore noodles were good for a fiver in casino.  lots of places to eat nearby and a ton of shops.  Unbelievably tilting getting a drink in the casino though.  Two valets/waitresses between about 200 players, 20 minute queues at the main bar.

Not to bad to drive down at like 6pm and drive back at like 6am! saves a bit on a hotel unless you want to go for two nights!

Best poker room  for cash games.

For £2-£5 PLO pretty sure its the only game in town, for everyother game there is somewhere better to play.

Tournament was run well enough.  Standard was on the poor side for the buyin, though had a smattering of good pros; Martins Adeniya 2 to my left (fml sat at the same table 3 times now each time he was just to my left).  Think most of the buyins were local, and a big field (350 or so). Drinks/food service was really sluggish.  2 people between 200+ players means 2 hour waits to order food at start.  Ant and Charles Chatta also there (he runs good).  Think Ant was still in when I exited, and Mr Chatta certainly was.

The standard makes me want to play the WPT national there, the drinks service not so much.
