A home for mine if you would be so kind.

The son of my wife's best friend running in his Mum's honour 10 years on from her very early death.

http://www.justgiving.com/Jonny-Hincks

Well played both

Donation sent. Thanks for the interest in our silly little travel blog.

Thank you. The pleasure was all mine.

As an aside, one of Teesside's true finest is on the final table today. Chris Wood is a top bloke despite being a Monkey Hanger. If it couldn't be one of the Gascoignes then I'd be very pleased to see Chris spin it up today.

Ah yes.His were the queens which saw me to the rail.

I've never liked him

Hi Ed, Ian

Congratulations to you both on great runs, sounds like you had a great time which is the main thing.

I'd appreciate if you could donate my share to Christie NHS Foundation Trust, a cancer treatment hospital in Manchester, please.

Well played chaps, in every aspect.

Once I've collated responses from all stakers we'll distribute as appropriate - some very kind responses thus far.

Total Buy Ins: 770+770+165
Total Returns: 1340+1950
Total Profit: 1585 Eur

So for your £13ers please....

I had an absolutely great time over there, and was nice to 'mix it' at the poker tables again. UKIPT Notts hopefully next up Smiley

I'd like mine to be in the form of a charitable donation as well, so could Ian please add the £13 to his stack the next time he sits in the 1/2 game?

I thought Tighty would be relaxing and enjoying Leicester City's procession to the Premiership without wanting detail of my short trip to Hong Kong. The company I work for has made a small acquisition of a business with offices in Beijing,Hong Kong and Singapore. This has resulted in me having to make a few visits and this week I went over on Tuesday and returned on the overnight flight Saturday. It all sounds very glamorous but anybody who has done these kind of trips knows it's pretty exhausting.
However I did to get to see some rugby at the Hong Kong 7's which is basically a three day booze up for all the ex Pats and and array of seriously creative fancy dress outfits. The beer sales drown Cheltenham and the atmosphere is pretty amazing especially on the Saturday and in ''The South Stand'.
I let Alex know I would be over there and he popped over from Macau for the Friday afternoon. He seemed in good spirits and is grinding away at the poker playing about 12 hours a day on I think 2/5. I let him know how much I personally missed his diary and he said he missed it as well but regarding Macau he wanted to keep his head down and just get on with things.
As for Hong Kong ? Well I was staying in Central so it's all highways, skyscrapers and shopping Malls. Totally alienating and I would rather chew my arm off than have to live there. The expats are young guys working hard/ playing hard or older guys who went out as younger guys and have never made it back. Hence they develop strong feelings towards rugby clubs, cricket clubs and the peculiar affinity with the old country that only people who don't live here anymore can have. Nostalgia ain't what it used to be,if you know what I mean. The interesting thing is that I actually lived in Hong Kong as an infant and when I look at the images from old cine films circa 1957/1958 it could be another planet compared to today.
Staying in Hong Kong on the 58th floor of the Conrad I had amazing views of Kowloon and what used to the New Territories. They are building a new railway station in Kowloon which will have a bullet train to Beijing. From Hong Kong they are also going to build a massive bridge to Macau. I cannot thing how big the gambling casino's are going to be in ten years time. If Beijing is doing 7 times the revenue of Las Vegas now I suspect it could be 30 times within 15 years. In fact that's probably a massive underestimation because when you look at the numbers in China they are staggering.
I didn't manage to get over and certainly didn't get to play any poker. One interesting incident occurred on the return flight. For reasons I will not bore you with I was flying back Upper Class with Virgin Atlantic. This was a fairly expensive late booking. On checking in at about 10pm on Saturday they explained they had oversold the flight and would I be prepared to bump myself down Premium Economy. The incentive for doing this would be a Virgin Atlantic Economy return flight from anywhere to anywhere in the world! Like yes Heathrow to Vegas?  Now this was an offer I had to refuse because the company had bought the ticket and put me in Upper so I could have a sleep etc and I couldn't really take a personal 'gift' from Virgin Atlantic yadayadayada.........
Final point.I watched a great movie on the plane called ''Blackfish" I wish I knew how to give you the link but please Google it. Made in 2013 byGabriela Cowperthwaite it's a behind the scenes documentary about Sea World and the truth behind the training, conditions and lives of the Orca Killer Whales and includes some emotional interviews with trainers and some incredible footage. I will not spoil it but it's really well done and won loads of awards at last years Sundance Festival. I appreciate it all sounds a bit twee but it's put together a bit like a thriller and with several deaths and live footage it's compelling. See the trailer on Google and you will get the drift. I feel ashamed that I took Ed and Alice to Seaworld when they were small.
So that's about it from me.Another shocking week at work but the highlight of the week will be visiting the King Power Stadium as a guest of Sytner and watching Sheffield Wednesday probably being taken apart from a very rampant Leicester City. I have a spare if you can make it Tighty. I understand it's your birthday so you are very welcome to join Ed and myself. If you are busy doing updates at DTD I will probably pop in after and I can bring you a programme.
       Love and Rockets.

I was lucky in that I travelled a lot as a youngster so as a young man I never had the urge to live abroad as maybe I had got it out of my system. I would encourage young people to travel as it does give you a valuable attribute called perspective. Hong Kong is busy, energetic, noisy, polluted and the climate can be hot, muggy and clammy. For young people with money I am sure it's party central and you can hop on a ferry to quiet Islands as well as Macau. Visit for a month first. You will love it or hate it.its expensive but there's a lot happening. As I have got older I have become more appreciative of home...............warm beer,a Test Match,a walk by the canal etc now you can get decent food and coffee England isn't so bad.It is people who make places. If I was young and wanted a few years away I think I would do Sydney,California and Tuscany. Good luck.

I couldn't imagine living there, it's pretty horrible. I think you'd hate it pads. Noisy polluted and congested don't even begin to describe it. Horrible climate and a huge language barrier also. The night life was great but that's not your thing anyway.

Thanks for the kind comment about the diary. It's meant to be more of a series of 'road trip' reports than a diary but let's see how it develops. Thanks once again.
