What-ho!

It’s my turn again to do a quiz, so I’m reverting to a good old-fashioned RSQ – a reverse sheep quiz, where you want to make the lowest total you can. As my truest love is language (numbers are my filthy mistress) and as there is a lot of fun on these boards around the TV show Countdown, I thought I might combine the two.

I recognise there’s a fairly wide range of word-tinkerers who might want to play, so rather than making this a Stato1 procession, I’ve levelled the playing field a little. You get 11 rounds and all are letters rounds. You are looking for words no one else comes up with (hence the RSQ element) and score points depending on how many people submit the same answer. You are looking to score 1, on the basis that each answer you give is unique.

So that it isn’t completely silly, you must give me an answer for each that is AT LEAST FIVE LETTERS LONG. Anything of 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 letters in length will be lovely. The word must be in the Oxford Dictionary of English but you don’t have to give me the definition.

There is a 9 letter answer for each, but if you’re not a cleverclogs and you don’t see it, you aren’t going to be penalised. This should be a low-scoring game, as there are loads of acceptable answers for each round.

I’m awarding a bonus -1 point if you can give me a word of a number of letters no one else has submitted. In other words, if you give a 6 letter word for number 1 and no one else gives a 6 letter word for that answer, you can take a point off for being a hero.

This doesn’t just reward braniacs or people with countdown apps (or whatever), you are rewarded for second-guessing the oppo...or just getting lucky.

Here are the headlines:

Reverse Sheep Quiz

One word for each of at least 5 letters

Points are awarded according to how many people choose that word (so 1 if it’s just you)

Bonus -1 for unique length of word

If you give an incorrect answer, you get the highest score for that round plus 5.

Answers to be submitted by PM to me by 7pm on Sunday 10 February.

1.       PETERPAUL

2.       ACEPISHSP

3.       VETICETED

4.       HORSECART

5.       WONTUDONC

6.       MEGIRENTS

7.       SETTHERSC

8.       SLABCRANE

9.       CARDRTYOU

10.   MILEPOCAN

11.   SITHACTER

Very best of luck to you all.

In the event of a tie, he or she who submits their answer earlier gets the win.

I considered this, but I'm keeping the RSQ flavour strong and so it is as per OP.

Stato completes all 11 conundrums in 31.2 seconds. Took me longer but have now got em all.
Pretty annoyed about 5 being the min length, I know some corking 4 letter words.

Googling, apterus-checking, dictionary eating and stato-begging are all discouraged.

It serves relatively little advatantage anyway. I remember an RSQ question of "Name a male winner of a tennis major singles event in the last ten years" and no one said Roger Federer.

It isn't just about finding obscure answers.

Smashedagain, 31.2 seconds? I'm taking the under.
