Do you have a real first name?

Mine is Mark btw, but everyone calls me Ruud...

I may be in Kendal next week also...

Does he know?

You will notice I made absolutely sure to get my spelling correct there!

Glad to have for this diary moving though, even if it is with gratuitous filth... Herbie will be along to join in soon no doubt, shortly followed by Tal, averting his eyes

Just for you, ruud:

Last time I introduced smut to the forum it was about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit.

Then again, I did use the term 'bum her in the mouth'.

Seem to recall that drew a combination of hilarity and bewilderment.

"......I'm less happy that the diary seems to be one of the least interactive I read on blonde so need to think about why that is and address it.....".

Mark - I absolutely love this Diary, it is arguably the best, freshest Diary on blonde right now. The view-count confirms that many others, do, & readership is growing. Interaction will follow, give it time.

Tom's is brilliant, but he has the advantage of having been here for ever, so he has built up a solid bank of regulars, & he does that chit-chat-waffle-talking to-everyone thing so well. Just basic, what you see is what you get. And a surprise every day, always something completely left-field.

Alex, ditto, he mixes it up beautifully, lot of poker, lot of non-poker.

Greeky (GreekStein) used to keep a fantastic Diary, ditto ditto, his had a different tone completely but was a fantastic read, & he replied to EVERY Post, & gave everyone a nick.

There are other great ones, too, including the "poker poker poker" ones, I don't read them because I work in poker for my day-job so I need a break from it, but it does not make them any less good.

Note the common theme - all are well-presented gramatically, have "balance", & are nicely set out with paragraphs & stuff. Which partly explains why they had such high click & reply counts. Well set out Posts just make reading easier, & an enjoyable experience. Few of us enjoy reading stuff which makes our eyes bleed just to read.

We all have different tastes in Diaries, & what we read, but for me I like to see.......

Well presented, "old-fashioned" correctly punctuated, with paragraphs, enboldening etc.

A good mix & balance of subjects. Some poker, but not too much. Balance.

NO Hand Histories copied from 'Stars, or disguised bad beat stories.

In poker stories, respect other players. All this "guess what the idiot/moron/fish called with?" stuff is just not nice to read. Dissing other players we share tables with, ditto.

Humility. I love humility. Arrogance is fine, in the right place, misplaced arrogance is just embarrassing.

A few photos now & then. The photos on Page 2 of Kendal were magnificent. Pictures beat words, mostly, they really do. We don't paint a picture as well as a camera.

Honesty & self-deprecation.

Not too much smut, & dear God, no gratuitious filfth, nothing looks less classy in writing. We all like a bit of hows-yer-father, but it does not translate into the written word at all well.

Now I am not typical, far from it, I'm old & out of touch for starters, with old-fashioned values (= out of date), but there are plenty like me, who I am 100% sure enjoy your Diary.

Remember, you are a newbie here, & good friendships are never made overnight, they take time to develop if they are worthwhile.

I have not interacted much because I just have so much on my plate right now, here & in real life, in fact I can't even reply to stuff weeks old on my own Diary, a place where I am happier than anywhere (online).

Keep it up, the interaction WILL grow once folks get to know you better. We have only just learned your name!

This could be one of the most-viewed threads here in a year or two, really.

It is outstanding, imo.

Wink

You are MUCH better than that, though at the time, I think I missed the irony. Sorry.

VBlue:

1. What's the best piece of advice (in any context you like) you've ever received?
2. You make this year's October/November Nine for the WSOP. What's your walk-on song?
3. Please post a YouTube link or otherwise tell us your favourite TV comedy moment
4. Have you ever been told you look like someone?
5. Is there a word that makes you smile but you've no reason why?

Should get some natter a-going.

Celtic says he will buy you dinner at Nando's (obv never gonna happen as he never buys dinner) but hypothetically what is your order?

Ps I read this as I do all of the diaries, even Tikay's!

I would just like to concur with everything Tikay said.... I think this is a brilliant read and it could really get going and be one of the standout diaries on blonde...

It's already much better than Tal's, where you have to wade through loads of stuff about draughts before you find anything interesting Wink

ps. Kendal is a small place, we no doubt have a mutual friend or two, I will look forward to finding out!

Tikay/guys - shucks.  Such nice words and lovley of you Tikay to spend the time in your very busy days to write such a reply.

Now on to the important stuff - Tal:

The ones I can answer off the bat:

2) Know Your Enemy, Rage Against The Machine - I'm crap at posting Youtube links if anyone else can oblige please (and I'm just about to indulge in the platter of salamis and chorizo, pate, cheeses, olives, and wine that's on the kitchen counter)
4) Cameron (Ferris's mate) off Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Bueller, Bueller, Bueller, Has anyone seen Bueller - Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious) and Jonny Vaughan - marvellous!
5) Crocodile - does anyone know the Movie reference?

I have to give proper consideration to the others.

Hope you all followed Sensei Channing and made good money on 5 places online on the Grand National with two places e/w.  Word.  Enjoy the rest of your Saturdays - I certainly am about to.

Proper record, that. Good choice.

The intro reminds me of a big drumstep song from last year:

Obviously completely coincidentally.

Tal, back to the other questions:

1) This is very difficult to answer and i never have a best or favourite anything really as it all depends.  If I had to go for one right now it would be something from Anthony Robbins and I don't have an exact quote to hand so I'll paraphrase "Be proactive.  Focus your efforts on the things you can influence and identify the things that you cannot as concerns.  As you work on the first your influence grows.  Make a proactive choice to be happy'. There is so much to choose from I could write a long post on this stuff that has helped me and still does help me every day.  I may go down this path in later posts.

3) Obviously, Del Boy falling through the bar:
