Reaction to a bad beat
«
on:
March 26, 2013, 02:39:35 PM »
Posted this elsewhere, but would be good to see some other people's reactions from live and online.
Live - I probably just shake my head in dismay and grind my teeth.
Online - Smash laptop a little bit (not too much as I'm not hard enough lol) & tilt in every other tourney, hence why I do not play much online, unable to handle a bad beat.

I never get bad beats so I don't know how I would react.

There's a 5 or 6 different seating spots in our living room. I always like to choose the armchair by the wall on the right, because slamming my mouse on that wall is really satisfying. It makes a loud noise but has yet to do any damage - perfect.
Live, nothing has phased me on the outside for a few years.

I make a hole in my jumper. Same place, every time. So annoying.

I occasionally swear online, but it tends to be a culmination of beats rather than just one. Sometimes shouting fuck when he gets there is just enough.
Live I try not to react at all ever but normally involves going to smoke or quitting if I do react.

Me too. I've had three bad beats over the past few years.

Online I will occasionally slightly forcibly lift my mouse of the pad and tap it down and/or say 'Reeeeaaaallllyyyyyy?' if its particularly bad/deep...

If it's an exit hand, and a fairly rough beat I tend to just stand up, walk away muttering about people who get it all in with 'that' when it's pretty obvious I have them crushed.
On extreme occasions
**
I have been known to kick over a chair. But I did it softly and my opponent wasn't sitting in it.
If it's mid-game I can generally shrug it off. If it's getting to me I get the music on and just let a spot of Arcade Fire fill my head
**
once
My reaction to delivering a bad beat is actually harder to resolve in a way. It's not guilt, but a sense of discomfort and a feeling of embarrassment has to be overcome. The music often appears then too.

Have been known to use curse words, or say noooooo ffs, usually under my breath. Even then it is dependent if villian has played it right. If we get it in with AA vs KK or set over set then I am pretty relaxed about it even if they get the one outer. If he 4 bet spews it in with A8 off for 50 BBs, or limp shoves the SB with 84 soooooted and hits then it is tougher. Even then I don't go in for berating people, just so wrong to slag off the fish.
Pretty sure I have never broken anything. I have been know to spew off stacks straight after, though even that doesn't really happen very frequently anymore.
I tend to be fairly sanguine these days, if I have got in a good position then there isn't much more I could do. I must admit to giving someone the "wp" the other day after they typed "lol" after they sucked out on the river. Probably as aggro as I get these days.
I probably handle badly timed internet disconnections worse than bad beats, thankfully my connection has been fairly solid for a few months now.

Live; worst you'll probably see me do is shake my head or say "so sick"
Online I don't think it's safe to post without someone being concerned for my personal safety.
