We are effectively 4 handed towards the tail end of a session at the gala 50/1 game. I pick up the good old A4os otb, and make a raise to £4. We get a call from both blinds. Both guys are pretty splashy, very loose and are basically just gamblers who tend to play their hands very face up, and not fold very much. We see a 233 rainbow flop, and it checks to me. I check back. Turn is an os 5, our gin card. Checks to me, and I bet £10. Both players call. River is another 5. It checks to me, and I bet £22, and the guy to my left ships it for an extra £95. Thoughts?

I was basically going to get called by any two on the flop and the turn by these guys given how the game had played so far, i dont really wanna bloat a pot with just A high, that was the thinking.

Fold pre then? Your hand doesn't flop well. Seems like a bit of a bad open of you're just gonna check back when you miss

4 handed, really? Idk, I just dont like bloating pots with just A high here where we have showdown value against people that are proven to basically not fold flops and turns, so I will have no idea where I am unless my hand improves. I haven't been c betting a huge amount in these games, and im saving money for it. Like, say I bet the flop here, basically knowing im going to get two callers (two overcards is defo good for these guys). What do I do on the turn? Check behind? Bet again? What is that bet on the turn, a value bet, a bluff...? There are so many bad cards for me here. I'm happier trying to find a cheap showdown with my A high, basically. No point trying to create marginal spots in games like this (although that said, i did go for pretty thin value on the end, so I guess that comment is kinda hypocritical).

open pre fine obv, defo cbet too, fine if they float atc, (people dont actually do this btw its an illussion - them calling A6o or KJ is different to them calling 87o obviously), even if they do its a profitable cbet.

river seems like a fold. read dependant obv but hardly ever see a nonboat hand here. Massively weighted towards 5x

You simply have to bet this flop, 4 handed, in position with your hand.

When they are peeling so wide, your gonna just win there and then such a high percentage of the time, especially with it being paired.

I get not c-betting on J82 or whatever, but you have basically smashed the board here.

Okay, you really don't have much showdown value. What you do have on the flop is equity though. If like you say, 2 overs are good then you have 6 outs there and 4 for the gutshot. You wouldn't follow up on every turn, but there are a lot of good cards for you on the turn. Obviously the named outs of which you would be value betting and also other overs (K/Q/J/T) which you could follow up with a second barrel (as a bluff) because they are great cards to represent and they will also have quite a weak range on this flop too, thus they may fold more than you think to a turn barrel. It is very hard for them to continue with much.

If called, re-evaluate on the river.

Nice post Melissa.

although you prob do have a decent bit of SDV, the rest is really well put.

Re the open all I'm saying is if you're not gonna c bet a 233 pot with just ace high I don't see the point in opening at all cos the Hand in general flops so badly

so you correctly called the river. or folded and got shown a bluff.

yes it might be a good call with a read on villain, but you haven't really provided us with much information to deviate from making a judgement based on the general population of gala 50/1 players which is c/raising the river allin = nutted hand.

in my opinion Smiley

Sick read Wink

Was kinda more interested to see how people would view this hand in a vacuum, and the responses are fun :p

I happened to be the 4th player at the table and I think matt hasnt described the hand well here. In a vacuum I think the river is a fold here, but at the time I was sitting there thinking if he has anything that beats ace high he should call. Just based on a physical read on the guy and just the way he had played all night, i just didnt think he was ever shoving value hands on the river. Just my opinion of course.

But I agree with what has been said itt, defo a cbet and in a vacuum the river is a fold.
