Sheff Wed winning promotion to the Prem at Hillsborough.
The other 4 I would happily sacrifice for this.

1 - Boxing Day test MCG
2 - Royal Rumble
3 - NFL Conference Championship Game (In a dome)
4 - Any Elite level Sumo Event (Tokyo)
5 - Isle of Man TT
The sumo is excellent to watch. I was lucky enough to go to two 'basho' at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo (which is the purpose-built arena for sumo where they also hold boxing and other martial arts events), and one in Osaka.
I was at a basho in 1999. Did you get an 'autograph'?
Sumo autographs are awesome. Instead of wasting time writing their name, they place their hand in ink, then slap it down on a card so you get their huge paw print. Much more interesting than an autograph I think and probably a lot quicker for them to pump out a couple of hundred for the paying masses. I got Terao's.
1999, that's when I was in Japan - we might have been at the same basho! I have quite a few of the tegata, including Terao's (he was the housewife's favourite for his looks
). No idea where they are now, but will have to dig them out and get them on the wall (also have Musashimaru, Takanohana, Wakanohana, Kyokushuzan, Chiyotaikai and Kaio).
Well I guess we were at the same Basho then!
I was there for the September basho. One of the earlier days, can't remember exactly but Akebono was already injured so I didn't get to see him, which was a shame.
Terao was my favourite, not for his looks(!), but cos he was so small compared to most of them and still more than held his own.

I'm going to be boring for a change:
- Ryder Cup final day
- Olympic Men's 100m final night
- Opening morning at Lords of the Ashes
- Football World Cup Final
- Monaco Grand Prix
I'm triple-A to all of this

Superbowl
Kentucky Derby
Melbourne Cup
Masters (probably wouldn't like to go for the final round - like watching that on tv too much)
Auld Firm Derby
Quite happy with the top 5 I've actually seen:
Super Saturday at Olympics
Women's Keiren Final at Olympics
QPR in the Cup Final
Big Bucks winning at Cheltenham for the 4th time
Breeders Cup

I liked Kyokushuzan for the same reasons. He was also the first Mongolian to make it into the top pro ranks. His nickname was the department store, because of his range of techniques, but the governing body told him to stop using a lot of his throws that were unorthodox as they risked injury to his opponents.
Want to go back now!

Not seen it mentioned yet, 'el super classico' Boca Juniors vs River Plate at La Bombonera.
Its number 1 on this list
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/osm/story/0,,1182710,00.htm
but dont´t believe that its only a few quid to get in.
I attended last Sunday and it´s the most intense atmosphere I´ve ever witnessed. If your ever in BA when this fixture is on, you MUST attend!
Video found on youtube from Sunday´s 1-1 draw.

The game stopped 30 mins into the second half so the fans can have a bit of a sing song and fireworks display.

Beat me to it I'd have that over any other football match and has to be at Bombonera.
Also AFL Grand Final at the MCG
Racing at Happy Valley,
Ashes Tour
Super Bowl

Been to Happy Valley. Remarkable venue for horse racing, but the atmosphere was very very flat.
Bit disappointing really.

Really, I thought it would be buzzing? I was in
for a few days a few years back and was gutted to miss out on it.
Need to reconsider now.
I must have been to over 50 Glasgow derbies and the atmosphere was never flat! My first one saw Butcher, Woods and McAvennie all end up in court after some hand bags with a 9 man Rangers equalise in injury time and that was one of the quieter ones.

Quite surprised you have the Kentucky Derby in your list for the same reason Keith. I have been to a lot of US racing including a Breeders Cup and a few Florida derby's but whilst I love the sport they wouldn't be at the top of my list of events to go to.

It's worth going to if you're
don't get me wrong.
Amazing and unique venue for racing, really stunning. Definitely worth going just to see that.
But on the two occasions I was there there was zero atmosphere.
Went to Sha Tin too, and that was even worse (even though the quality of racing was 100 times better).

Wasn't a derby in Iran so intense the government forced 0-0 results for a few years?
edit:^^
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tehran_derby#Official_elimination_derbies
Spell of six 1-1s but clubs are owned by the same guy so prob not government.
All i can think now is that I have no excuse not to do all of mine and most in the thread.

Any of those on the Guardian list would be great, World Cup finals, massive derby games, Boxing Day test match, Wimbledon, CL final. I don't think I could pick just 5 out of all the brilliant things to do.
