Ugh, that's sad to hear.
He was a HUGE star in his time.
Saturday afternoon were dominated by the likes of Mick McManus & Dickie Davies.
Mick was always cast as the villain. He specialised (?) in the forearm jab, & had a sort of catchphrase "not the ears", because he disliked being picked up by his ears. Understandably.
EVERYONE watched Mick, every Saturday.
RIP Mick.

Agreed, nor was Catweazle, but Catweazle got a submission from Mick by tickling him.

McManus was great, but I think Kendo is my fave though. Big D killed UK wrestling.
McManus was 93 by the way.

RIP Mick McManus.
Everyone watched the wrestling on World of Sport I think it was, ITV 4.30pm on Saturday afternoons in the mid to late 1960's in black-and-white where Mick was the archetypal bad-guy in the ring.
Billy Two-Rivers was my personal favourite with his "lethal" tomahawk chop.

RIP the Great Mick McManus. As a kid I loved Les Kellett.

Yeah - Kendo had mystique, and aura - all the others were just fat guys in pants.

Adrian Street was entertaining, with his make-up.
And Johnny Kwango headbutting people seemed entertaining at the time, though it seems hard to imagine why now.

Don't put yourself down mate.
Saturday was all day in front of the box.
Started with tiswas and ended with Dr Who then bedtime. Mc Manus was arbed by Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks. But he then ended up managing the whole thing if I remember?
We used to go out for a kick about when the ITV7 came on! Then back to tv for footy results and Jim l fix it cos horse racing was boring!
Oh how times have changed. I now can't even get a weekend off because of ITV7 2013 style. Funny life but I wouldn't change a thing.

I remember a wrestler Jackie Pallo (?) from my far off days of childhood.
Nasty Mick would be smashing him to a pulp, but good Old Jackie would always make a 'remarkable recovery' to doom that Dastardly M
c
Manus to defeat.
I used to love all those old girls ringside who'd try to biff the Baddies with their handbags if they got lobbed out of the ring .... WWFBore? Not in the same league as ITV servings from Warrington Town Hall on a saturday afterlunch!
