Channel 4 coverage is so poor, who is this clown they call on Skype that reckons Tom Brady is not an elite QB

Can there be a more stupid celebration than Revis catching an INT there on the Tampa 33 yard line when Miami are  4th and a load from their own 15 yard line when if he doesn't catch it Tampa get the ball on the Miami 15?

Just given away 52 yards  and is running around like David Pleat chasing Raddy Antic and getting high fives from everyone.

Meh.

Can't really blame him - they looked throwing away yet another W, but managed to pull this one out of the fire.

Would have been much worse if he'd tipped it like that Ravens safety did on the last play yesterday.

Yeah, they could have fumbled a snap or had a punt blocked or something - but it's kinda natural for a db to try for the INT in that spot.

So often they do this and it winds me up, Keith you make reference to the Ravens game, he tipped it because he tried to bring it in, could easily have batted it out of the end zone.

Don't think he was trying to catch it, think he was just batting it away.

Have to re watch to be sure though.

Was only watching on a live text feed so didnt see if there was any particular reason why it happened, but what the fook were the Lions doing on that FG attempt late in the 4th?    They were 4 points clear with about 5 mins left and had 4th and goal or something at the 7 yard line, had the field goal unit on the pitch and tried to run it in on a trick play.  Surely if there is one situation where you must kick a field goal this is it?

And surely if you're going to go for it there, you tell Matt Stafford to throw it to Megatron, not put the ball in the hands of a punter lol

It is certainly getting to the 'I'm a play calling genius' stage of the season. I am surprised by how many teams have been giving up field goal attempts to go for td's this season too.

The funny thing is this is probably closer to mathematically correct than the current average nfl coaches strategy.

Problem is no one is willing to step that far outside of the box, from a lack of knowledge or job security.

Currently the best is probably trestman at the bears, chip kelly has let me down after being very aggro in college. Bellichick used to be pretty good then he got slated for a correct go for it spot against the colts in the media and backed off.

Except the punters are incredibly skilled and the defences can stop offences.

Really smart video. How big a part do statistics play in English sports? Supposedly the national cricket side had a very clued up young man from Loughborough who was doing lots of analysis but understandably it all seems a bit under the radar.

There was a part in this where Sir Clive Woodward explains his disbelief that strikers take different run ups to consecutive penalties; that there is no consistency of approach in any one player. Compare that to the metronomic - even boring - template of Johnny Wilkinson. When they did it at Southampton, a striker would take a different number of steps each time. When you compare it to other (particularly US) sports, it is incredible.

Cricket seems to have benefited from the analysis it has received and Jimmy Anderson's bowling action has changed significantly over the years. IIRC his action now is back to a similar style to how he started, but he has been through a few different approaches.
