Terrible news.

He broke the mould, in so many ways.

Quite a life he lived, too, in so many ways, and deservedly did well for himself.

RIP Sir David.

For someone of my generation, it's only in recent years that we've learned how influential a broadcaster/reporter he was (e.g. Frost/Nixon being released).

It's hard to envisage someone having a similar impact these days, and that's ignoring the earlier groundbreaking comedy series he was involved with.

A unique broadcasting career, that's for sure.

I presume it was seeing what ITV have done to Through The Keyhole last night that finished him off.

I assume Barry means the real thing, not the dreadful film.

You really think the film was dreadful?  Thought it was pretty good.

Personally, yes, though that does reflect on Sir David. It is subjective, of course.

It is different for me, remember. I lived though the Watergate years, & Nixon's entire political career, & most importantly, I saw, Live, the original & real Nixon/Frost interviews. After that, no Film could do such an extraordinary story justice.

The Watergate Story was, to my mind, one of the greatest news stories in my entire life, it was breathtaking, & I have 20 or more books on the topic.

The fact that, in those days - very different to now - David Frost (as he was then) had the courage & temerity to dare confront an ex-President was an outrageous one, in context.

So not a fair comparision for me really, the reality had to be better than the Film.
