When Blue Square was founded there was just 4 of us working on the site (the IT stuff was done out of house at that time - which was the worst decision ever but that's another story) and we shared an office with the traders of the now similarly defunct City Index Sports.

At the time there were only two punters who spread panic through the traders ranks and caused them to move the price right through the spread.

One was Tony Bloom and the other was Mr Philip Peters.

did you guys not restrict or block punters back then?

Not really.

I remember Tony Ansell was one of the first account holders at Blue Squirrel.

He came on at the middle of the night on time (when no one was in the officew) and backed something over and over again until it suspended.

In those days on BlueSq if you backed something for the max, you could not back it again for 5 minutes, to give the loltraders, time to move the price. If we didn't move it, you could back it agin and keep backing it once every five minutes until the max liability was reached.

The head of trading emailed him to say he wouldn't restrict his account if he stuck to the rule he could back anything to the max just once and if he wanted more than the max on, he had to email the desk and ask permission.

I would say it's a 100% certainty that Ansell hasn't got an account in his name now.

The only people we restricted were cheats.

Laurence Houghton?

He is a dad now so I guess has last time to play, won the WPT National as Aspers last year or earlier this year. I don't know him IRL but he was always one of my toughest opponents at the table. When he was playing all the big stuff online I feel like he never got the breakout live result that he deserved. Don't see him online in MTTs much or at all these days. Maybe he plays cash instead?

Hi Camel,

What do you mean by ' cheats ' please ?

I've got many restricted accounts and am interested to hear if I would be considered to be cheating ?

Do you consider any of the following to be cheating :-

Backing at higher odds than Betfair

Beating SP

Only betting when the book is top or joint top price

Partaking in money back offers

Betting ew in dirty ew races

Thank you

Ha, none of those are cheats obviously.

I'm talking about using stolen credit cards, chargebacking or betting on events after they've finished.

In the days I worked in the industry, none of the examples would have led you to be restricted by BlueSq (although bonuses were not offered as much as they are today and Betfair had not been launched)

This changed massively after I left - Betfair changed the whole industry and BlueSq became one of the quickest to restrict.

Thank you for your reply. My parents bought me up not to cheat so I'm relieved you don't consider any of those things cheating.

The Dazzling Cornelius from Smethwick.

Saw him in Walsall J10 2 weeks ago. Hasn't changed at all. Got banned from Broadway a few years ago for being racially abusive to a dealer if I recall correctly.

Glad to hear he is OK.

A cantankerous old bugger at the best of times, much in the style of Red Dog, but such a character.

He used to do a card trick before the start of every tournament. EVERY tournament. I must have seen it 100 times. Still got no idea how he did it.

The Dazzling Cornelius from Smethwick.

I popped in to Walsall casino on Saturday and saw him, hes not changed a bit . Had a laugh with him too. 1 minute he had all the chips in the final then 2 hands later  he was out sadly.

Unfortunately Walsall Casino has changed totally , admitadly I have been off the scene for a few years but only recognised about 3 people. Also the whole place has changed for the worse imo and would not rush to go back. Only the thought of a 24hr bar encourages me  Cheesy . Its sad as I have spent thousands of enjoyable hours there

I know exactly what you mean about the place, I popped in there for the first time in a few years to see a relative. Ended up playing the Friday night comp. Funny thing is I actually enjoyed the game. First time I've played a sub £300 comp for a while. And now for the thin bit........... I won it Smiley
