Nick (dino1980) hit the nail on the head. I've just not had time to post or even read blonde much recently thanks to a new job. I do still read a bit but don't have the time to contribute and spend a lot less time on poker these days so can't justify it from a work context as I used to.

Blonde tended to be a work daytime thing for me so when that option went away I stopped posting. I do still read the threads every now and again though. Nick sent me a link to this thread and it has encouraged me to be a bit more active again. Sorry about that.

Rest assured Mr Kay I never knowingly took offence at any posts. You develop a pretty thick skin editing gambling magazines I can tell you. And many thanks for the kind words.

The brill thing about Solaris was I think a new account from the same IP addy opened up pretending to be his house mates saying he is not a well man and don't give him any more money. That he owed them and they didn't know where he was or summat.

thing i loved about solaris is that he must have given me tips on about 40% of my sick run good and even then on some of the ones i put on myself he had me laying off bets while my matches were going my way only for the matches too have lost in the end
then he did a runner before i could ship him my stake so i remained grimless

Yep, basically. I'm not the most controversial person IRL, but I am a lot more so than online. Online, people go all keyboard warrior mode and it's difficult to win an argument like that, at least on a forum like this with so many posters. On a smaller forum I post on you can generally be a bit more upfront and straight talking since everyone knows each other on a personal level.

He really is a smashing bloke, & quite good at poker, though he'd not mind me saying that his wife, Bev, is probably the better player of the two. Norman won one of the SPT Side Events at Luton a few years back. 

Bev was cbass on Ladbrokes for many years, & quite a decent winner on that site, I'd say.

Life for both of them has always been much tougher than most imagine, as you'll gather from this story, which was dated 2010 I think......

He apparently made a brief poker comeback in a live MTT on a med cruise last summer. However, not being able to finish anywhere near the top 4 in possibly the worst field ever
assembled for a tournament, he quietly confirmed his permanent retirement.

He moved out of London where he was born and bred to settle in Lincolnshire about fifteen years ago because he wanted to "get back to England" as he felt that his London was now populated by too many foreigners. He's not been sighted as far as I know for a few years.

I played Shelley's poker at Century and no sign of Norm or Bev among the very high quality field, cough cough. Weirdly tho someone did ask about them and noone had heard much from them of late.

Skalie told me the first time he stayed at their house, he took a wrong turn looking for the pisser in the middle of the night and ended up in a room where all the costumes, Da Management, Billy n Johnny etc etc were all housed!

Think there was about 80 runners, STTs running for the bust outs and I remember thinking 'wtf have I got myself into?' when I realised I was in charge of the cash game float - there was £20k+ in the chip case - never hoped for something so much that the damn thing balanced when the game broke  ;D

Wazz : very good player and good writer/ analysis of poker . Played him live a fee time at DTD on PLO table . Very aggro and willing to gamble . Did read his diary/live selling when he went to Vegas this year . Use to write a lot in PHA but not hear from him since . Honeybadger used to be very close to him .

Yeah when Coral Eurobet had a skin on party they were the only way you could get RB on party. Everyone i knew in the UK had an account through Jim on CE so he must have done pretty damn well.

Yes I know why he isn't here, but anyone keep in touch and know how he is doing?

It's been a long slog, but they're well.  He took a physical trainer course and found a new job, starting at the ground level with hopes of working his way up.  He has nothing to do with gambling in any form since and even struggled to keep in touch with the few of us initially for fear he'd get the bug back.  So far so good.

Kev's been doing great over the last couple of years. No bus driving (as far as I know!) but he has done loads of voluntary and charity work including helping out on the SOS bus in Colchester which helps ease the strain on the emergency services on busy nights in the town centre by providing help to drunk and/or injured people. He's also done loads of work for time to change and the samaritans, raising awareness of mental health issues, including, as above, being the script advisor for the ian beale breakdown storyline on eastenders, speaking at events and in the media, and taking part in public awareness campaigns out and about. Has a day job working with adults with learning difficulties. Fantastic turnaround for him :)

I am a big Boldie fan, when I met him he was a top guy and all the times I interacted with him on and off blonde he seemed like a top bloke so I'm just glad the good people of blonde have been so excellent with not pushing this and letting him get his life in order first.

That said, he definitely needs to resolve the debt issues with his stakers at some point so the question was definitely not an unfair one and could have been met with a better response.

Apologies if my replies come across as nasty because it's definitely not meant that way.  If I hadn't been quoted in the first place I wouldn't have replied at all, but I didn't want to ignore it when asked directly. 

In this case, individuals are owed significantly less than the other cases where there's uproar.  Most are owed £50 - £100 and would spend more than that on a night out.  Add Boldie's horrible breakdown into the mix and their attempts to get life back on track since, and I guess that's why there's not been as much uproar here. 

I absolutely agree with you and think he should resolve it at some point, but it's not me who owes the money so I can't give a better answer than that.  Anyone involved in the staking who would like to contact him is welcome to.  All I can do is hope he honours the debt when they're in a position to do so.

I really couldn't give a toss about the money, think I had £150 in it. I have met Boldie a few times and liked him and actually worked next in the same company as his wife for a while and thought we got on well also. When it all kicked off I was only concerned he get home safe etc. What did disappoint me a bit was that I noticed i had been un-friended on Facebook at that time.... but meh whatever I suppose.....

When I did it it came up with threads and posts he's made. If I was looking to find out if he was posting like you were, if the search feature failed me and I was aware he sold a package I'd have gone to the staking forum and found him via that route.

This thread is like a who's who on the forum when I joined. I was introduced to Blonde at the Blonde Bash @ Alea in Leeds back in 2009 - I still regularly read but don't contribute as much as I should. It was however my 30th b'day this weekend and my lovely Mrs. Beaver has surprised me with a 4 day trip to Vegas next week so expect a lot of questions over the next few days about what and where to play.

Was also a boldie fan. The amount owed seems to be being trivialised, when really it shouldn't be. The total amount is in thousands rather than 'just 50 or 100' and whether people spend that On a night out is neither here nor there. Seems to have had an incredible turnaround, from having a complete breakdown, to starting up his own business in a such a short time.

I remember him, actually ended up getting smashed one night with him just before the main event in 2008 at the Rio. John Magill, Marty Wilson, and Jesse May were all there too, and possibly Marty Smyth as well, but I was on the back end of a 2 week binge, so am not 100% sure about him being there.

We ended up in the gaming lounge behind the bar, with Marty (mis)directing John as he attempted a spin up on the Blackjack. Trying to think back now, I'm pretty sure that Jesse was the most pissed of anyone, and was giving it some Matchroom type commentary while they were playing, which didn't go down so well :D

He lived with his mrs in Oregon or something, but travelled back to Ireland quite often to see family. He used to blog on Paddypower too when they sponsored him.

Last time we met was in Killarney at one of the poker festivals right before I moved over here.  She had her other half with her and was in good spirits at the time, but not run into her since.

Chessa ran a nightclub in Greenock along with silent partner Allan McGregor, the current Hull City keeper, went busto as far as I know and I havent heard of him playing poker live in scotland for a while so no idea what he is doing these days.

I'd be actually really interested to see how Blatch reacted to life after poker/blonde.  Not just from the embarrassment side but also from a social aspect too, as didn't he go to most live events and also have a huge group of friends in the game.  Then one day that's suddenly taken away, as he could never turn up to major events again and would probably be recognised in most casinos with a large card room.

To me, she is part of the modern history of Tournament Poker in the UK. Cash poker as well too, really.

She was part of that "Birmingham Cash game" some 12 or 14 years ago, along with DC, MW, JS, DB etc. At the Vic, she won back to back £750 Events for decent money, beating what was then very select fields. 

As a person, I like her very much.

PS - Did Ali Mallu play it? Poor Danny Bell - "Yogi" as he was then, now @ DTD - had the thorny problem of what to do with his chips in play, & his Entry Fee. Think you may even have won the Final. Pretty sure I would have finished about 8th, as bloody per, I always did.

The bottom line was he admitted he screwed up badly and everyone was repayed, pretty quickly.
 The consequence is a large debt to his family and finding a regular job to repay the money and escape from gambling.
 If I were him I might ask to invest a small amount of money and use my talent at poker to repay some money. Obviously he can do this anonymously online....whether he would want to satellite into big live events...well who knows.

I don't think blatch was a bad guy at all and, as Nick said, he fessed up and sorted things out pretty much straight away. I don't envy him having that conversation with his parents. He was a victim of his surroundings - the 'glamorous' side of poker - he wanted to he one of the 'ballas' or 'heroes' and got too far sucked into it I guess. I dropped him a message several months after blatchgate to see how he was doing - he seemed pretty settled then - working a regular job, spending lots of time with his family and real friends - totally removed from the poker world and not missing it. I presume/hope that is still the case, and I don't see why he'd want or need to walk into a card room.

i saw ali in blackpool tony so his ban was lifted seemingly. Nah i got about 6th. Mr Bradshaw won it that day, although it had felt like we all had won it when ali's massive stack was just taken off the table and we all jumped up a rung!

I had mixed feelings about the whole thing, but yeah, it sure as hell made the Final an easier one to play.

i played 3 events at the vic in a 12 month period she won all 3 for £50k a piece  2x£750 and a £200r loved having dinner with her when we met on the curcuit she was incredible company with some great stories

I have to say, I have quite a few positive things to say about Lucy. A long time ago she stepped into an incredibly male dominant game and played a style that a lot of people didn't.

 She used to crush really hard, about when I started playing that started to stop. It was as if she was a step ahead until then, and perhaps something that had worked for a long time didn't really need changing. But poker is not of that nature at all really. Her style of play was really easy to play against once people started to get smarter and I guess Lucy was just a little stubborn with her style and refused to change.

The first big live tournament I finalled had Lucy on it and throughout the tournament she was incredibly friendly with me, sharing stories and whatnot. I guess she was just that kind of person, it's a shame that she didn't progess like some of the other people did because it would be good to see her trying to bash people up. Hello all....alive and well in sunny Milton Keynes. Just been for a walk around coldecotte lake which we live 100 yds from. It is beautiful. Had a load of life stuff to sort out, seperated after 20 years of marriage, found a new partner, pukingly happy in other words so happy it would make you puke. Building my business which will pay for my retirement which I plan to start in 5 years time once the youngest child is in university and only I play poker once in a blue moon now. The thread was deleted upon receipt of legal advice, and after receipt of a missive which either came from, or purported to come from, a Solicitor acting on behalf of someone who was allegedly involved in the matter.

It placed blonde in a very awkward spot, and we don't have the funds to fight further legal battles.

I would have thought that it would have been perfectly fine to just remove the specific posts which were causing an issue? I would estimate 85% of the thread wasn't even regarding the stuff going through courts. It's done now anyway, so there isn't much point in quibbling.

Within that latest deleted thread I read a post by you which said poker attracts all kinds of criminality and you can't expect these people to be banned because it's the reality of poker life, so if you don't like it don't play live. Yet whenever this reality of poker appears on Blonde you fall over yourself to delete it from view. And forget criminals, you ban members here simply for being 'hard work'. Incidentally my posts are never idle or glib, just not to your taste.

I take the point about Mantis  probably being a bit of a headache for the mods at times, but to say it was 'him and him alone' that is the reason for no advent calendar this year seems a bit ridiculous, and can't possibly be true.

It was a bit of fun from a personal perspective for two years and to be challenged for "lack of democracy" (when no one else is going to step forward and do it) was laughable.

Well since everyone loves me your safest option would be to put me in the hate column as it will be clear to all that you jest. Put the person you actually hate in the don't mind column, better to be disliked than unnoticed at all, so that's more of a rub and it the same time doesn't create a kerfuffle. Then that leaves you with the person you aren't really that bothered about being put in the love column, you get to make them feel quite good about themselves and since you have no problem with them, that's fine with you.

So I have no idea were Tal is coming from, all seems very simple.

The only reason everyone loves him, is because whenever he says something bad or annoying, no one knows what the fuck he is saying.

taximan - 'hate' is a word to be used very sparingly, but sometime it is the only word that will do - Paul Ho has demonstrated this perfectly by applying it to celery, which is the food of the devil.

No no no - celery is just wrong in any state, shape or form.

When I was a kid there were a few foods I didn't like that I like now.  Every few years or so I give celery another go as I see people eating it and think I must have exaggerated in my head how awful it is.  I haven't - it tastes of everything poisonous in the world, moulded into a leafy green stick and pretending to be edible.

Try raw celery with your favorite dip, or maybe some sort of hummus, do make sure you remove the strings though.. Such a great dipping vegetable, along with carrots cucumbers and peppers...   

are the strings the bit that taste rank, or is that just a texture thing?

the strings are pretty intense, like biting into a banana peel.. But I guess if you don't like it you don't like it...

I do sometimes think you all take things a bit personally sometimes though people. It is the funniest forum ever, and I read loads of stuff online. I don't know why but I kind of feel it's all falling apart?

Basically any kind of shite gets dumped on Blonde. That thread the other day had f all to with anyone really and caused a big row. This is a poker forum first and sports betting second.
