You can get all the same plugins for IE too, tabFX does the tab browsing and an autorefresh to boot!!
There is no functionality in firefox you can't get in IE.
I have no real opinion on which is best as i CAN FIND NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL!!

I dont want to mess about with plugins! it all comes standard on Firefox and no popups is a beaut.

ALL comes as standard?
Tabbed browsing is ALL and that's a < 1 min download, IE has a popup blocker too BTW.
As i say i can find no difference performance wise though i have had problems with firefox (crashed my comp twice and i had forever loading screens on blonde), haven't had any probs for a while though.

One of the main reasons people should switch to ANYTHING but IE is that the majority of virus scripts are written to exploit security holes in IE. Roughly 90% of codes that are written are targeted with Microsoft in mind,  not really a huge surprise when you think how many people use IE.

Good enough reason on it's own I would of thought.

I read up on this a while back and i did mention it earlier in this thread, BUT, as firefox becomes more popular it will attract more and more attention from virus writers and malware.
It is actually easier for fiends to attack firefox as it is open source and so anyone can examine it minutely for exploitation points, also it does not have the backing to fix bugs/close loopholes that a company of Microsofts size does.
I saw an articlre that basically says all this and some more stuff, the fact of the matter is they BOTH have security issues and always will have.
Personal preference is the only way to go.

I use slimbrowser - which comes with tab browsing - very handy at work as I can keep a tab open on a BT SIN (Tech spec) and switch to it when anyone important shows up.

Also stop using Internet Explorer and use Mozilla FireFox instead!

IE does everything I need it to.
I'm of the "If it ain't broke..." mentality when it comes to software.

IE is broke "out of the box". It would take a total rewrite to unbreak it. Its akin to a house with severe rising damp. Sure, it might fit the definition of habitable, but not for too long. And if you stay there, you're gonna get ill!

You think Microsoft gives a flying <censored> about bug fixes? Unless it is an issue which effects Win 2000/2003 internet servers and thus can have disasterous effects to most of the net, they don't really want to know.

Open source products will always have regular bug fixes, and not just the severe security holes. When it comes to the software OS debate, I am a fan of M$ products. But I have to be fair and say bug fixing is not a speciality of M$ at all.

As for the security flaws in Firefox, they pale in comparison to those of IE and Windows itself.
