have had a huge    .was on my way to the brighton 50 pound rebuy when ,splutter splutter and STOP.out of petrol. bollox.was quite a few miles from the petrol station but luckily aubrey, who i now know runs a letting agency in eastbourne ,is 38 has been married twice has 5 kids and isnt an alcoholic anymore stopped and 45 minutes later wished he hadnt.after the first gallon from the can it still didnt start after the 2nd it did but it really is not too well.i was too late for  brighton so drove back home, very slowly because the engine was misfiring and has obviously been affected.what im asking is ,have i caused big damage or is it just a case of the garage giving the pipes a swift blast.thank you for your help.

Impossible to tell for sure without having a look, but it sounds like it's picked a bit of muck up from the bottom of the tank

Mrs Red rang me with the same problem the other day

"What do you think?" she asked

"Crap in the carburettor" I replied

10 minutes later she rang back, "I've tried that" she said, "It didn't work"

By running out completely you will have sucked up bits of crap from the bottom of the tank , these will now be blocking the fuel filter , all that needs to be done is diconnect the fuel filter , turn the engine over to make sure the fuel is getting through then either clean or replace the filter , should be ok then.

I don't know anything about car engines, but I CAN offer you the best advice with this particular issue....

Make sure you have enough petrol when you leave for a long journey! Wink

I now look like a complete nutcase after reading Red's post, I was p1ssing my self and the wife thinks I belong in a loony bin.

It's still worth it, that man cracks me up.
