Witnesses at the door

Is it just me that's genuinely happy to see Jehovah's Witnesses at the door?
Had a couple of ladies round on Saturday, and although it was a bad time (was meant to be packing boxes for a house move) I couldn't help but take the opportunity for a nice long chat with them. Spent about 45 minutes with them. Remained calm for most of it, but the last 10 minutes got a bit heated.

Covered biblically sanctioned slavery, their god's various acts of genocide, his followers guided ethnic Cleansing, evolution, the Big Bang, Russell Crowe and Noah in general, their god murdering babies with aids, malaria and famine, the fact the bible specifically prohibits her preaching the word of god to me as a man, being superior to her as it states.

I finally got a bit cross with her when when I told her that it was easy for them as white middle class people to be talking about being saved and she claimed to be from a poor background, at the same time as we were discussing the afore mentioned starving and diseased masses.

Might have lost my rag with her a bit then and got a tap on the shoulder from my wife, letting me know it was time to release them.

They took notes of some of the questions I stumped them with. I implored them, instead of researching the biblical responses to those questions, to instead open a physics or biology book and look for the answers there.

I left them with a request that if either of them ever lost their faith, to please come and find me to thank me.

One of the best moments was when I actually got the classic "Evolution is just a theory" out of one of them, which I couldn't help laugh out loud to.

I explained their confusion between a theory and a hypothesis, and reminded them that Gravity was 'just a theory' too but, to that point at least, they hadn't floated away from my door, but that they looked like they wished they could.

Also gave a mention to the croco-duck, explained that, rather than coming from monkey or apes, that we actually ARE apes. Talking shaved apes. Discussed the vast number of 'Goldilocks zone' planets, the amount of water on the ecosystem.

Wish I'd had time to drop in the Flying Spaghetti Monster, plate tectonics, ancient Chinese, Greek, Egyptian flood and virgin birth saviour mythologies, other deities.

Mentioned in passing, but didn't go into detail about observable evolution, the ages of the universe and the earth, the predicted end if the world dates passed by JWs.

They claimed that revelations was coming to pass as observed by the wars and death going on now, and I only briefly discussed the colossal death toll of WWII. Would like to go into that in more detail next time because I've since learned that JWs suffered under the Nazis too. Purple triangles apparently. Not sure if they were invited to the camps too. More research needed.

The biblical flood was approx 1500BC.
I tried really hard to get them to estimate the global population at the time.
I suggested it was obviously a lot lower than today. "Millions? Shall we agree tens if millions?"
Only one righteous family saved and every other man woman and child slaughtered?
And of course all those evil animals slaughtered too. Evil bunny rabbits murdered because this almighty being couldn't think of a better way to draw our attention to where mankind was going wrong.

They didn't like me calling their god a ruthless psychopath, but they liked it even less when I backed it up with examples

Sorry, my mistake. It was Exodus that they dated as 1500BC (when their god was quite happy with his chosen people owning human beings as property)

The flood would have been approx 2300BC
The best estimate if a population I can find of that date is around 27M people.
A lot of evil mother fuckers to kill off.
That Noah fella must have been righteous indeed to warrant saving ahead of all those people.

Project next year is to find a quiet spot in the new house, get myself one of these bible things, and actually read it cover to cover. I was already better versed in scripture than these two, but next time, they might send the big guns.

We have a couple of JW's popping round to us from time to time.  Personally I don't really want to give them the time of day.  Not for any horrible reasons, they're a nice couple of old ladies but I don't really care about that sort of thing, I'm just polite, say no thanks and that's it.   I'm the same with everyone that cold calls us.

My Mrs however likes to have a chat with them.  They've never tried to convert her (if that's what they do) but just have a chat.  I'm sure she's had them in for a cup of tea before when I've not been in!  They always leave a couple of copies of thier magazine The Watchtower for us.

lol I've read it a couple of times - there are some good stories in it, but it has a pretty rubbish editor.
