Okay I’m constantly doing this when I am on a time limit, so if the casino is closing or I have to leave at a certain time and I’m up a significant amount relative to my buy in, I tend to tighten my range and try to avoid high variance spots. Recently I got criticized on the 1-2 Omaha table at the Vic for doing this, I started playing at 8pm (Brought in for £150) and was planning on leaving at 10:30pm, so was always going to be a short stay, at 9.30pm I was up to £1300 so I tightened my range and played very few hands..

One of the guys at the table got annoyed and wanted me to leave, but told him my lift was coming at 10:30pm so I was playing until then…

Doesn’t really bother me what people say when I’m playing because I’m a recreational player and would have left at the same time, even if I was in for  £1k, but I can see how the pressure must get to some people..

Is it bad etiquette?

Thoughts…?

Note: I got to the Vic at 5pm, played 1-2 NLH until the PLO started..

It's all one long session. I like to know hat I always made good decisions. We're there to make good decisions and if we always make the best decisions then by the end of the year we will make more money than if we're taking 300 poor decisions to justify lower variance. Even if we lose 20 pound a decision that's 6000. Perhaps you make 3 decisions at the end of each night and now you have 900 decisions where you lot 20 pound in each one, that's a lot of mone!

Your 650bbs deep - playing tight pre-flop isn't going to save you from being outplayed post-flop.

If you want to lock up profit. leave the game.  If you don't want to play deep, leave the game.

If you are happy playing deep, you should play your normal game.

Could it not also be argued that the guy has a seat at a game, and he can play however he choses to??

he's a recreational player, having fun, and weather up or down has set himself a time limit due to a lift coming to get him

if a pro is complaining that someone is playing tight and it is affecting his own win rate then ul imo, find another table or sit quiet and be the "pro" you are meant to be.

i imagine if the OP was 3k in the hole and spewing every hand the other chap wouldnt be complaining about how he was playing

The PLO is all recs that love to gamble, very few rocks in that game..

I don't understand - if you want to "lock up a profit" leave the game.  If you want to play deep, then play optimally.

If your point is actually does anyone think that the person who complained was out of order - then ok he was out of order.  But from a poker sense, I don't understand what you are trying to achieve.

Same thing most recreational players do when they have just finished work and going to the casino for a few hours, "leisure time"

I should have said tightening my range not locking profit...

He wants to keep looking at 4 cards until his lift gets there but doesn't wanna lose 200 quid. I used to et annoyed by this too but do what u want. If the guy getting annoyed say "keep folding these unsuited aces, the suited ones will come soon I know it"

Some solid advise right there... Never thought of it in that way.. Much more like a business way of thinking..

TBH I didn't mince my words when I responded to him...

Oioi, I've made it into another sig line Smiley

Re: the question. Do what you want innit. It's your money and your seat.

Not sure tho, as folding hands you would normally play, might be costing you money.

I'm tightening my range not sitting out...Huh? Why would I just go home...?. Some people that have played Omaha with me; will confirm at this level my vpip is around 60% or something ridiculous, when I decide to tighten my range in Omaha (Not NLH) it's around 10% significant difference and also I'm not making high variance plays either...
