My Dad and I were debating the greatest football team ever, he was wax lyrical about the current city team, he came up in his 60+ years of watching football the following;

thoughts, additions

Spurs, Real, and Penerol (me neither?)from the 60s

Liverpool in the 80s

Arsenals team "the invincibles"

Milan with Gullit, Van Basten & rijkard.

Ajax from the 80s

Brazil '70

Barc c2005-10

City c2012-4

Ajax of the early 70s rather than 80s surely?

France mid 80s and Holland 74 to 78 were great teams to watch. Hungary team of the 50s was meant to be immense. If Spurs of the 60s are in there so are Celtic late 60s early 70s.

Man City should be nowhere near a list like this yet.

I thought people were getting carried away suggesting they'll definitely beat Barca Smiley

Celtic mid 60's to early 70's.
Ajax 70's
Liverpool 80's
AC Milan 90's
Barcelona/Bayern - New Millenium.

Man City as a greatest team is just lol.  They have only bought a Premier League title and have failed against any decent force in Europe.

Surely Man U at some point of the last 20+ years is an automatic in the discussion.

Not sure saying city are anywhere near the great teams of the past, but potential is big to be compared in 10 years or so.

Theyve only been good for a season of imo and great for 6months imo.

Man United would be late nineties early noughties, but for me the AC Milan team earlier in the 90's were better and through the new millenium Barca were better.

If you were talking great managers then obviously SAF wins hands down for his work at Man U/Aberdeen

I agree the Barca team were better, too young for AC Milan team. Just saying they should be in the list.

Personally I think Mourinho's achievements are better than Sir Alex but I'm sure I'm in a big minority there.

Sir Alex over Mourinho for longevity I think

Built 3? 4? top title winning teams. 1999-2001 being the best of the lot?

Not old enough for Hungary in the 50s, Brazil early 70s, West Germany 74 etc but they have to be in there right?

Nothing beats the Brazil team of 1970?

When I used to play Champ Man I never dreamt about staying at one club for 15 seasons and winning the league lots of times, amongst everything else he won.

I did always want to win the League and Champions League for an English, Spanish and Italian club, only managed it once, and I spent A LOT of hours playing it.

So Mourinho's achievements impress me more than what Ferguson has done.
