Thanks Mr 3103.

I tried contacting Apple Support - I can schedule a 'phone call, they ring me at an agreed time. When I went to the Page it was the American version, & had the USA Time Zones listed, with no way or changing it to the UK version.

I've now found that I cannot use the "Message" facilty on my i-Pad, which I normally use a lot, every single day. It requires me to log-in, & won't accept my new log-in details.

FFS.

and then - via a google search "phishing email apple id" i found this page
http://www.tuaw.com/2014/01/17/beware-of-this-apple-id-phishing-scam/

which includes THIS line Apple will NEVER ask you to click on an embedded link in an email to go to a "Verify Now" website

and this https://www.staysmartonline.gov.au/alert_service/alerts/apple_id_account_holders_targeted_by_double_chance_phishing_email

Bastards!

Thanks for your help.

Sheesh, that was close. I had the form all filled in, did everything except press "SEND". (Or more accurately, "Complete Apple ID Verification").

As a rule, these things are always scams and if in doubt, go to the site direct and see if you can log in.  Apple would never ask you for your card number, exp date and cvv number.

Typical emails going around at the moment include the Apple one, Amazon, DHL and other delivery companies, Emails "from friends" claiming to be held hostage in a different country and need money to be set free, penis enlargements, Your Order #253736 (random numbers) and many more.

The bottom line is that if you're not expecting it, don't click on anything in the email.

Unforunately, you may not have to even press the send button.  I'm pretty sure I filled out a genuine form on a site once and put my phone number in but decided to close it without sending, next thing, I got a phone call about it.

Perhaps someone else could confirm that this is possible

I just deleted all the info I had insrerted on the Form, & then closed the page.

I've now realised I had TWO e-Mails from, or supposedly from, Apple about this, both @ 05.58 this morning.

One was from "i-Cloud Support", the other from "Apple UK", so that suggests that either they are genuine, or that they have somehow already compromised my Account.

The 2 e-Mails are ALMOST identical, but differ slightly.

Ignore the emails, and go to apple.com or itunes directly and see if you can log in.

These emails are designed to get you clicking the links in them, then they steal all your money.

My folks are like this "Oh it's from my bank, it must be true", no it's not, they never ask you for things like this, don't click the links.

Whilst I'm at it, don't install shopping toolbars or crappy smiley programs either, you don't want them on your machine either.  I spent most of yesterday clearing down my mums laptop that was full of crap, she never put it on there of course.....

I did that, & it worked OK.

I'm going to visit the Apple Store in Kingston today or tomorrow, (where I purchased it) & show them the e-Mails, & see what they say.

I think it's despicable how these scammers target the elderly and vulnerable.

Is this your new diary?

You can talk, with all your "ooh, help, I've got a new phone & it does not do EXACTLY what I want" threads galore. Average length 15 pages.

Perhaps it's just that my laces are looser.
