I received an e-mail from Apple this morning.

It looks totally legit, but it asks for so much info, that I'm worried about filling it in.

It read as follows.....

Dear (e-mail address removed by me)  (06 - March - 2014)

This e-mail is to warn you that your iCloud ID (e-Mail address removed by me) has been temporarily restricted until you can validate your Apple Account details on file. This is a security measure to protect your Apple Account from unauthorized use. We apologise for any inconvenience.

You will be unable to use iCloud sync or the iTunes & App Store until you validate your Apple ID ownership, we urge you to finish this as soon as possible. Failure to update your account details within a 74 hours can lead to termination of your Apple Account to protect our system from abuse.

How do I verify my Apple ID and unsuspend my Apple ID?
Just click the highlighted link below to verify your ID. Sign in using your Apple ID and password, then follow the instructions.

>> Validate My Apple/iCloud ID

When using Apple devices and services, you’ll still sign in with your main email address as your Apple ID.

If you have questions or need support, visit the Apple Account Support site.

 Thanks again,
 Apple ID Verification

I have never used the "Cloud" thing, I don't even know what Cloud is.

When I puchased my i-Pad, 3 years ago, I had to set all that stuff up, but I've never used it, I don't buy stuff from Apple, or use i-Tunes or purchase Apps. It's possible I may wish to at some stage, I don't know.

If I don't fill this in, what will happen?

I'm only worried, really, that the Software Updates to my i-Pad continue to be available to me.

I find those questions a bit ott, giving all that info in an e-mail feels a bit dodgy to me.

Do you think it is legit?

Has anyone else here had a similar e-Mail from Apple?

I received something similar last week. But I deleted it. My advice to you would be the same and then just navigate to Apple and log in to your account on your own steam.

Lol.

He'll ask Amanda, then Amanda will say "ask Tony".

How can I log in if my account is suspended?

If the email was genuine and your account is suspended, you will be able to verify your account without using that email link. Just navigate to Apple yourself. The point being that if the email is a phishing email the link will not be a genuine Apple address and you will be typing your details directly in to the scammers website. If you navigate yourself to Apple you bypass the scammers.

I went to the Apple website & tried to log in, after going round the houses, I had to get them to remind me of my log-in details, when I pressed the link they e-Mailed me this, which is back where we began....

Snopes.com has no results for this that I can see, but it sounds phishy

This page may assist http://www.apple.com/legal/more-resources/phishing/

And this one http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4933

I certainly wouldn't be putting personal or card details into any site until I was 100% certain of it's provenance.

Good luck
