For me the % definitely depends upon the amount cashed for. If i won a small midweek comp for £2k, i'd happily tip £60 (3%). However if I shipped a bigger one for like £150k I certainly wouldn't be tipping 3% (£4.5k), I would probably tip 1k (0.67%). I'd probably always tip at least 0.5%, so on 1M that would be 5k, seems fine. Sure will ever have this problem though.

Agree with the person who said they would tip less/not at all if constantly reminded and pestered about it, that is something that really annoys me. Particularly if someone is backed and in a load of MU, doesn't get a penny of it and it's not their money to give away.

I must be a total nit i could never imagine tipping someone who is just doing their job £1k no matter how much i won.

You are.  Fwiw I used to tip in betting shops if I had a decent score (over a grand) because I remembered how much I appreciated it when I used to work in shops.  Nowadays I only tip if they are helpful and I get my full bet.  I make a habit of tipping if they go out of their way to try and get me on even if it is less ie. saying Im a regular when I'm not or not describing me as a stranger.  If they are the other way they don't get a tip even if I win thousands.

Tipping is such an awkward thing, I'm sure it's one of things that shouldn't be in the British culture and has been inherited from our American friends.

In the Netherlands tipping is a lot less common than it is in England. You tip in a restaurant if you've had a really good dinner. If the standard was as expected you'd leave €100 on a €95 bill and if it were exceptional I imagine maybe another €5. Still, if the bill happened to come to €99 I'd imagine it'd be unlikely many people would leave over €100. 100 is a pretty round number.

The problem with all of this is just the awkwardness, I am felt like I have to leave a tip because it's rude not to, but at the same time it's not justified.

I think in the unlikely event I ever ship another live tourney I'll just go around and give each dealer 2 quid each for their services like I would tip a waiter, seems fair lol. Lets hope I win £10k and not £200

Im with poshboy, i feel much more inclined to tip more at DTD, as its my home casino and get along with all the dealers and TDs very well. Generally would tip a little more in cash games there, than in other places and in the comps too. THink its natural though to not want to tip when asked or pestered for it.

Pretty sure that when I last played a ukipt event there was 10% reg fee, 3% then taken from the prize pool and then when I cashed and was filling out the form with the pokerstars person there was a space on the form asking how much I wanted to tip. I felt obliged to tip cuz she was sat there with me and just asked outright how much I wanted to tip!! I thought this was terrible.

If 3% has already been taken, I wouldn't tip. Same as when a service charge has been included on a restaurant bill. Effectively tipping twice. Also are you tipping the dealers, or all the staff?

I used to deal so generally always tip. I tip more when playing cash than I should. People in this country are noticeably tight at casinos for tipping (less so in card rooms I find).

One thing I like doing is if I am 3 handed and discussing a deal or whatever, building the tipping in can lead not only to a better deal for yourself, but also gets the dealers something.

One time I will never tip is if there is a "dealer bonus" or some other extra rake where they should be getting a decent wedge built in. If the casino or whatever is not passing this on to the dealers then they need to sort it out (with feedback from the punters).

If I won 100k i would leave £500 maybe max

Wow thats on the low side ;/

I can honestly say that if I won 100k I'd still feel panes giving 500 away.

One if the main things nobody spoke about much is staking. What if you have x% of yourself are you still supposed to tip the same amount? It's a little bit f a tricky situation.

At sky for example I bricked the high roller then cashed in the main to be down a little bit in the comps. I didn't give anything as I was still a net loser.

I'm also hugely against tipping when they take 3% out, fwiw irl I would say I'm definitely an over-tipper for good service.

Apologies in advance for thin brags

When 4 of us chopped GUKPT London last year we agreed that the change (£630) should go to the dealers, and we all got £50k each.  As I got the biggest share of the rest I think I bunged in an extra £500, as £630 between 4 didn't seem much.  My memory is bad, but think the winner put more in too.  I have tipped bigger percentages on my smaller wins in the past.  I'd definitely feel less inclined to tip so much if I had won a UKIPT with the 3% deduction, and really don't like feeling pressured into doing anything.

I think £1k is plenty if you have won £100k.  Maybe it is people's backgrounds, but I personally would find it pretty hard to just give away more than £1k.   It is easier to say you'd give away more than 1k when you don't have the opportunity to do so.  Having said all that, I am fairly sure I'd have tipped more if I had another major bink in the next month or two after that one.

On the staking thing, I'd probably be happy to just lose 1% or so, but wouldn't be happy if someone had unilaterally decided to just give away 5% of my money.

Pretty much agree with the consensus, when I've left tips before the backer has been happy to take his cut minus that and if not I've just made up whatever it would be. Personally I'd struggle to give more than £1k away from a 100k score, I'd rather give it to my friends/family then the dealers.

I always tip about 2% when i win sometimes more and quite often do suffer the the round number effect. Deffo not tipping if % already withheld. I agree its best to agree the tip as part of the chop when doing business. 2-3 handed.

So you win the wsop main for $10m.  What do u tip if a) u got 100% of your own action b) you only got 25% of your own action?
